Kanye West: Why I skipped Donald Trump’s inauguration
He already told you he was sorry.
Kanye West skipped President Trump’s inauguration because he refused to apologize again for his past antisemitic comments.
The Grammy-winning rapper, 47, claimed to Justin LaBoy in a video obtained by TMZ Monday, “I was gonna go to the inauguration but they told me I had to write another apology and say again that I wasn’t an antisemitic.”
Following Ye’s absence from the Jan. 20 presidential ceremony, it’s safe to say he didn’t apologize a second time.
Following his remarks, LaBoy praised the “Donda” rapper for not letting himself “be controlled.”
“You get to be free, you own yourself, you own your brand,” he added.
West first made his controversial antisemitic remarks in 2022 when he tweeted that he would “go death con 3 ON JEWISH PEOPLE.”
Although his social media accounts were restricted and/or deleted, the “Gold Digger” rapper went viral in December 2022 for praising Adolf Hitler.
At the time, he said he saw “good things” about the late Nazi Party leader who was responsible for the Holocaust.
After losing on many business deals and being canceled by fellow A-listers and fans, West apologized to the Jewish community in 2023.
As for his support for Trump, despite skipping the Jan. 20 inauguration, West has always pledged his loyalty to the businessman.
The rapper first announced he supported Trump in 2016 after the latter beat Hillary Clinton for the presidency.
At the time, the “Flashing Lights” emcee told the crowd at his San Jose, Calif., concert that he would have cast a ballot for the former “Apprentice” star had he voted.
West also rocked the infamous red-and-white “Make America Great Again” cap and visited Trump at the White House to discuss prison reform and other issues.
During Trump’s third presidential run, West and his wife, Bianca Censori, made a surprise appearance at a California rally in August 2024.
According to a TikTok video, the couple pulled up to the gathering in his Tesla Cybertruck as fans flocked to their vehicle.
Trump went on to win the presidential election against Vice-President Kamala Harris in November 2024.
On Feb. 1, he took to X to celebrate the win, saying, “Trumps back in office. Ye’s back a billionaire. The world might just be ok.”
West most recently had people talking when Censori showed off her assets in a completely see-through dress while walking the Grammys 2025 red carpet together.
