Katie Bates Prepares for 1st Intensive Therapy Getaway After Husband’s Affair Scandal: ‘I’m Hopeful’
Katie Bates revealed that she will be attending her first intensive therapy getaway in the wake of her husband Travis Clark’s affair scandal.
“I honestly have no idea what to expect. This is something that’s like so out of my comfort zone. There’s been a lot of emotions this morning,” Bates, 25, said in a new video posted via Instagram on Thursday, February 26. “I’m excited. I’m also very nervous.”
“I’m also very hopeful and I know it’s going to be really good for me,” the reality star — who shares two kids with Clark: daughter Hailey, 3, and son Harvey, 2 — added.
Bates said that she was packing “comfy” and “casual” lounge sets, sneakers and toiletries. “Talking about therapy feels very vulnerable for me. I’ve been doing therapy calls for the past four weeks,” she said ahead of the four-day intensive, which involves six hours of therapy a day.
She revealed that yoga and equestrian therapy with horses will also be available to improve her overall physical, emotional and mental well-being. Bates said she was preparing herself for the “heavy conversations” and has been journaling, confessing that writing down her emotions to be able to “process” them has been helpful.
Bates concluded her video update by mentioning that it would be tough to be away from the kids, noting that she would “miss them” but knows they’ll be in “good hands.”
“Wish me luck… prayers appreciated 🩷🫶🏻” she captioned her Instagram post.
Earlier this month, Bates celebrated her daughter’s third birthday with a heartfelt message, gushing, “You made me a mom. I was just a 22 year old girl holding you for the first time and somehow you’ve grown into this beautiful, happy, caring little person.”
Bates, who appeared on the Up TV reality series Bringing Up Bates from 2015 to 2021, has been leaning on her faith and family after announcing in early January that she and her husband, 24, suffered a pregnancy loss.
Clark went public with his affair the following day, stating that there is “no excuse for what I did” while apologizing for “the pain, humiliation, and betrayal I caused my wife through my choices.”
The couple wed in December 2021 after revealing their oceanside engagement earlier that year in April.
Bates said that recent events have taken a toll on her in an Instagram Stories post shared on February 23. “This year didn’t start how I thought it would. It’s been really heavy and emotional in ways I wasn’t prepared for. Some days I feel okay and steady. And other days it’s hard to even leave the house,” she wrote. “I’m just trying to take it one day at a time.”
“The love, prayers, and messages I’ve received have meant more than I can explain,” she continued. “I don’t always know how to respond, but please know I see it and I’m grateful.”
Bates shared that “finding little pieces of normal life again” with her kids “has been so grounding for me.” She added, “I’m not very good at expressing my emotions, so this probably feels scattered, but I’m trying to lean on God and He has brought me so much comfort.”
