Kehlani reschedules shows after hospitalization
Kehlani is making things right with her fans after scrapping two tour dates due to throat issues.
The two-time Grammy winner announced on Thursday that the Camden, New Jersey and Columbia, Maryland stops on her “Kehlani World Tour” — initially slated for Aug. 26 and 27, respectively — were rescheduled for next week following a brief stint in the hospital.
The Camden gig will now go down on Sept. 5 at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, with the Columbia date set for the following night at the Merriweather Post Pavilion.
The “Folded” songstress, 31, revealed on Wednesday that she was battling a serious illness that left her “unable to swallow & in so much pain.” She explained that she was instructed not to perform and had no choice but to cancel the upcoming performances.
“Breaks my heart to have to ever do this,” Kehlani said on Instagram. “I do everything I’m supposed to to ensure my health stays up to par & it still isn’t guaranteed. We will pick back up in Virginia [on Aug. 29].”
She claimed she was feeling “completely normal” earlier in the week, but things took a drastic turn out of nowhere, and her condition kept her up at night.
The artist apologized for the change and vowed to work alongside her team to “find a solution.”
Kehlani opened up about her grueling schedule in an interview with Billboard, where she detailed her strict routine to ensure she stays in top physical and mental shape while managing her bipolar disorder.
“I take medicine,” she told the outlet in the story published on Aug. 20. “I have to go to the gym; it’s not an option. I have to do yoga, take walks.”
“I have to spend time in nature: sit in the park or go wiggle my toes in somebody’s grass,” she continued. “I have to build a relationship with God. I have to pray.”
In that same interview, she detailed a “sinus surgery from hell” she underwent after years of difficulty breathing through her nose due to blocked nasal canals.
“I’m still healing,” she said. “But this will be my first tour using my breath to my full capacity. I’m really excited to be able to breathe because I’ve been onstage huffing and huffing.”
Kehlani is currently in the middle of 34 stops in North America before taking her show overseas, with even more dates expected to be added at a later time.
Kehlani released her self-titled album in April, with the lead single, “Folded,” spending 17 weeks atop the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts. The song also earned two Grammys for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance.
