  • The singer has been placed on complete vocal rest, but is expected to return to the stage for an Oct. 17 show in Nashville
  • Urban’s wife Nicole Kidman filed for divorce last month after 19 years of marriage

Keith Urban is pausing his tour — for a very valid reason.

The country singer was set to play in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday, Oct. 16 as part of his High and Alive Tour, but canceled the show due to a bout with laryngitis that began earlier this week.

A statement shared by the venue, Bon Secours Wellness Arena, said that Urban, 57, was advised by his longtime laryngologist Dr. Gaelyn Garrett from the Vanderbilt Voice Center to cancel the show. He is next set to perform in Nashville on Friday, Oct. 17.

“He has been placed on complete vocal rest and Dr. Garrett is optimistic that he will be back onstage for his Nashville show,” the statement read.

The “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer also shared a statement apologizing to fans.

“Hey Greenville, I’m so SO sorry to have to cancel the show ….I know all the logistics it takes to get to a concert these days and I’ve never taken any of that, or any of YOU for granted,” he wrote. “I’m looking forward to getting back there when we can!!!!!”

Urban has been touring amid his divorce from wife Nicole Kidman, with whom he shares daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

The Babygirl actress filed for divorce from the singer on Sept. 30 after 19 years of marriage, with a source telling PEOPLE at the time that she didn’t make the decision lightly.

“Their split is turning dramatic. Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” the source says. “She wanted to save their marriage and believed that she could, but it seems he’s already moved on.”

The Oscar winner listed the couple’s date of separation as the date of filing, and cited irreconcilable differences as reason for the split, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Urban played his first tour date after news of the split broke on Oct. 2 in Hershey, Penn. The concert included a photo of Kidman and their daughters in a slideshow shown onscreen as he sang his 2024 song “Heart Like a Hometown.”

The singer has just two more concerts on the schedule for the rest of the year, and will pick things back up on the road in March.
