Jonathan Joss is gone but not forgotten.
The King of the Hill voice actor, who died just over two months ago at the age of 59, was honored with an onscreen tribute at the end of season 14, which dropped Aug. 4 on Hulu.
“In Loving Memory… JONATHAN JOSS,” read the text in episode 10, positioned atop side-by-side images of Joss’ King of the Hill character John Redcorn on the left and the late actor holding a dog on the right.
Season 14 is part of the animated series’ revival, which comes 15 years after the original run ended.
The actor was shot and killed on Sunday, June 1, in San Antonio, Texas, police confirmed to PEOPLE.
According to police, authorities were dispatched to a shooting in progress at around 7 p.m., where they found Joss lying “near the roadway.” Despite attempting “life saving measures” while waiting for EMS, when paramedics arrived, they pronounced Joss dead at the scene.
San Antonio Police arrested one of Joss’ neighbors, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, shortly after the actor’s death and charged him with first-degree murder.

Police have said Alvarez admitted to shooting and killing the Parks and Recreation actor. He was released on Monday, June 2, on a $200,000 bond.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, mourned the loss of his partner, whom he met in 2023 and wed on Valentine’s Day 2025.
“He will always be my husband and the love of my life,” Kern de Gonzales shared. “He really gave me a lifetime’s worth of love in the short time that we got together.”
Joss’ husband has maintained that the actor was the victim of a hate crime and that they suffered repeated harassment and homophobic abuse from their neighbors before Joss’ murder.
The day after Joss died, the San Antonio Police Department said their investigation had “found no evidence to indicate that Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.”
However, at a press conference later that month, SAPD police chief William McManus walked back that statement.
Joss voiced the character John Redcorn on King of the Hill, which aired in the late ’90s and throughout the 2000s.
He took over for the original actor, Victor Arron, in season 3 after Arron died in a car accident in 1996.
Joss was set to reprise his role in the revival of the hit animated sitcom.
In addition to King of the Hill, Joss was known for his recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation. He has also appeared in Tulsa King, Ray Donovan, True Grit and The Magnificent Seven, among other projects.
