The Emmy Awards 2025 provided Kristen Bell and Jason Segel an opportunity to throw it back to their hit comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Bell, and Segel, both 45, posed together with their arms around each other during the awards show on Sunday, Sept. 14, as both attended in support of their television series Nobody Wants This and Shrinking, respectively. The actors costarred in 2008’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, a comedy that follows a former couple who coincidentally wind up staying at the same resort in Hawaii not long after their breakup.
Bell portrayed the title character, a television actress who begins dating a rock star (played by Russell Brand) in the wake of her split from composer Peter Bretter (Segel). At the resort the former couple stays at, Peter meets a new woman named Rachel (Mila Kunis) and grows a relationship with her during his stay in Hawaii while processing his breakup.
Back in October 2024, Bell admitted that despite Forgetting Sarah Marshall‘s status as one of her most popular movie roles, she had never seen the film in full. “This is such a funny movie. I have not seen this movie,” she confessed, during a video interview with Vanity Fair. “I don’t know that I’ve ever seen it in its entirety. Maybe at the screening.”
“Jason did such a good job writing this movie, Jason and Nick Stoller, our director,” she added at the time. “Wow, it’s hard for me to take any credit for this movie because this was so early on I did not know what I was doing I was so happy just to be chosen.”
More than two decades since Forgetting Sarah Marshall was released, Segel now stars in Apple TV+’s Shrinking, in which he portrays a therapist dealing with grief in the wake of his wife’s death. The series received five nominations at the Sept. 14 ceremony but did not win any awards.
Bell, meanwhile, costars with Adam Brody in Nobody Wants This; the series follows an American rabbi (Brody, 45) and an agnostic woman who embark on a romantic relationship despite the odds against them.
