Lamar Odom checks into rehab after DUI arrest
Lamar Odom has checked into rehab after he was arrested for DUI earlier this month.
The retired NBA athlete made the “personal decision” to enter a 30-day treatment program at iRely Recovery to “reset and focus on his health,” his manager, Gina Rodriguez, tells Page Six.
“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” Rodriguez shared. “He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing.”
“Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way,” she continued.
iRely Recovery helps those battling substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders “find balance, own their recovery, and cultivate a new life designed for wellness and success,” according to its website.
The former Lakers star, 46, is seeking help to quit marijuana because he’s afraid his smoking could lead to doing hard drugs again, his manager also told TMZ, who was first to report the news.
The father of three was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Las Vegas on Jan. 17.
In addition to the DUI charge, he’s also facing two traffic violations in connection to the incident: driving more than 41+ miles per hour over the limit and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane, TMZ reported.
Odom has publicly struggled with drug addiction in the past.
He famously survived a near-fatal drug overdose in October 2015 after he was found unconscious at Nevada’s Love Ranch brothel, and later claimed he didn’t willingly ingest drugs that night and believed that the drugs were “slipped into” his drink.
Odom went into a coma as a result of the incident, leaving his then-wife Khloè Kardashian to step up and care for him.
Kardashian, who initially filed for divorce from Odom in December 2013 but temporarily rescinded the paperwork due to his health emergency, shared in an episode of “The Kardashians” that aired last February that she hit him in the face after finding out he was using drugs again after his overdose.
“I punched you in the face, and I shattered everything in that house,” she recalled.
When Odom claimed he was not “even thinking” when he broke his sobriety, Kardashian hit back, telling him that he “had enough awareness to get a burner phone to call a drug dealer” behind her back.
Back in May 2021, Odom said he was using ketamine to stay sober, receiving small doses of the anesthetic under supervision.
“I went to rehab and did some other things, but ketamine came into my life at the right time,” he shared on “Good Morning America.”
“I’m feeling amazing,” he continued at the time. “I’m alive, I’m sober, I’m happy.”
