Liam Payne’s eerie 2010 tweet about his funeral goes viral after singer is laid to rest
How fast the night changes.
Liam Payne’s eerie 2010 tweet about his funeral went viral after the singer was laid to rest Wednesday.
The former One Direction member wrote on Twitter (now known as X) on Dec. 31, 2010, “If I died would you come to ma funeral…?”
Following Payne’s memorial, Directioners resurfaced the post and shared photos from Wednesday’s service, which his former bandmates, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, attended.
One fan replied that “They did 😭” alongside a collage of Styles, 30, Malik, 31, Tomlinson, 32, and Horan, 31, at the funeral.
Another posted similar pictures, commenting, “they would. they went.”
Meanwhile, a third person wrote, “They all made it to the funeral….May Liam payne Rest in peace as fellow one Direction members show up at his funeral to pay last respect [sic].”
One more added, “the tragic reunion i didn’t expect to happen in your funeral, liam. you will be missed. rest in love.”
One Direction rose to fame in 2010 while competing on “The X Factor.” Despite their success, the boy band took a hit when Malik left in 2015.
Tomlinson, Payne, Styles and Horan kept touring together before beginning an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
The “Strip That Down” singer died on Oct. 16 at the age of 31.
An autopsy determined he had passed out and fallen off the balcony of his third-story hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which caused him to suffer a cranial fracture as well as internal and external bleeding.
Following eyewitness accounts that he had been acting erratically before his death, a toxicology report determined he had crack, cocaine, a substance known as “pink cocaine” and a depressant in his system.
Three weeks after his death, Payne’s body was flown back to the UK and three people were charged in connection to his death. An alleged drug dealer and a hotel employee were accused of supplying him with drugs, while an Argentine businessman who identified himself as the star’s manager was charged with abandonment.
In addition to his former One Direction bandmates, Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, his mentor, Simon Cowell, and ex Cheryl Cole, the mother of his 7-year son, Bear, joined his family at Wednesday’s memorial service to pay their last respects.
He is also survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, and two sisters, Nicola Payne and Ruth Gibbins.
