Lola Tung’s The Summer I Turned Pretty Look Nailed 3 Classic Wardrobe Staples You Can Wear Any Season

The Summer I Turned Pretty or the summer we turned fashionable? Mark our words, it’s going to be the latter.
Though the series centers around teenagers-turned-20-somethings navigating the hardships of adulthood and steamy love triangles, we gained a lot from the first few episodes of the final season. Mainly, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) dished out look after look, and there’s one, in particular, that we’re thinking about almost as often as whether author Jenny Han changed the ending to the beloved series.
In a flashback in episode 2, Tung is seen in a denim jacket, a black mini dress, and loafers with socks — staples that Martha Stewart, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Garner have taught us a masterclass in, respectively. TL;DR: Even if you’re not watching the show, you should be paying attention to the clothes.
The Summer I Turned Pretty-Inspired Fashion
Omoone Oversized Denim Jacket
Jean jackets are a celebrity-favorite, and for good reason: Denim matches all patterns, colors, and styles, making it a foolproof topper for any outfit. Plus, they’re not so heavy that they make you sweat, but they’re substantial enough to wear in the fall. They also have a classic look that’s not going out of style.
This one that’s under $50 “goes great with leggings, jeans, or even my maxi dresses,” said one shopper. “And it completely covers my rear end, which is a bonus,” wrote another person.
Quince Fluid Crepe Sleeveless Shift Dress
As evidenced by celebrities and PEOPLE editors, there’s nothing more quintessential than a little black dress. This Quince pick looks short enough to be breezy on humid days, but not so short that your undergarments show when you’re sitting down.
It’s sleeveless, which means you can wear it without a topper in the summer to stay cool or layer it under a jacket in the fall without looking bulky. Plus, the high-neck looks really classy and won’t require you to keep tabs on where it’s falling.
G.H. Bass Weejuns Penny Loafer
Belly’s flashback takes place while she’s off at college, so you could argue that it’s either early fall or late spring — two of the best times to wear loafers. I just got a pair of G.H. Bass shoes a few months ago, and I’ve never been more in love. They look like they could be from The Row, but they’re surprisingly affordable and even mold to your feet over time. I want both the cognac and burgundy pair, as well as some ruffle socks like Belly’s, for the fall.
