What did Tina do again?

Mathew Knowles gave a stunning response about ex-wife Tina Knowles’ contributions to Destiny’s Child during a recent interview for New York’s PIX 11 anchor Kendis Gibson’s “Kandid with Kendis” show.

Tina, who owned her own beauty salon before the band made it big, famously styled the group members’ hair throughout their career and designed their costumes before they shot to superstardom because few designers would dress them.

But her ex-husband seemed to need a reminder during the interview.

“You’ve earned your flowers. I said the same thing to Ms. Tina Knowles. You guys put in the work, and obviously the talent was there, with your kids and your grandkids,” Gibson said,

Knowles then calmly asked, “What work did she put in?”

A stunned Gibson reminded Mathew, “the hair.”

“Ok, you’re absolutely right, and the styling. The imaging. You’re right,” Mathew acknowledged.

“It’s a joint effort,” Gibson offered. “We’ll stop now,” he said, standing up to end the interview.

Gibson asked, “Did I say something wrong?”

Later Mathew told us that Gibson arrived to the sit-down 15 minutes late, and claimed he asked multiple questions about Tina, “when the interview was supposed to be about Destiny Child’s tribute concert,” he said. (As Page Six has previously reported, he’s promoting a classical-inspired tribute to the “Say My Name” band)

“How it starts is how it ends. It started on a bad note, and obviously ended on a bad note for him,” Mathew said.

“I politely ended the interview, shook his hand, and took a photograph,” he said.

An insider told us Gibson arrived on time for the shoot, while the crew was there early to set up. They disputed that he asked several questions about Tina and echoed Gibson’s interview. “He was giving them their flowers. He was praising them for the work they’ve done,” the source said.

A spokesperson for PIX 11 did not comment.

Mathew and Tina divorced in 2011 after 31 years of marriage.

He celebrated his 12 year anniversary with current wife, Gena Avery, in 2025.

Tina is back on the market after finalizing her divorce from Richard Lawson in 2024. She and Mathew, however, continue to support each other.

He appeared onstage at the Houston, TX, stop of her “Matriarch” book tour, at her suggestion to show their “united front.” She told the crowd, “Both of us, neither one of us have ever bad mouthed each other, ever, and I would never do that,” she said at the time.

Tina also continues to support Mathew on his endeavors.

The social media-loving gal about town, shared a post promoting Mathew’s “Destiny’s Child Iconic: Reimagined Tribute” concert tour, which he launched at the top of the year. He told us the tour’s next stop is in Nashville, TN, at the National Museum of African American Art on March, 27.
