Meghan Markle defends launching podcasts, TV shows and a lifestyle brand after quitting royal life

Meghan Markle is booked and busy — and not apologizing.
The Duchess of Sussex defended pursuing various business endeavors after she and her husband, Prince Harry, quit their royal roles.
“I need to work, and I love to work,” the former actress, 43, told the New York Times while celebrating Wednesday’s launch of her As Ever brand.
Markle told the outlet that she doesn’t consider her podcasts, TV shows and lifestyle brand out of character since she worked from age 13 until meeting her partner.
Now that the couple has two little ones at home — son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3 — the “Suits” alum explained, “This is a way I can connect my home life and my work.”
The royals left England in 2020, living briefly in Canada before settling in Montecito, Calif.
The duo announced in February of the following year that they were officially resigning from all royal duties.
Markle and the former military pilot, 40, have since worked on multiple Netflix shows together, starting with their 2022 “Harry & Meghan” docuseries.
Harry then published his “Spare” memoir in 2023.
As for Markle’s solo projects, she hosted her “Archetypes” podcast in 2022 in a failed $20 million Spotify run.
Her next podcast venture, “Confessions of a Female Founder,” will premiere on April 8.
Last year, Markle revealed she was working on her lifestyle brand, then known as American Riviera Orchard.
She rebranded to As Ever the following month amid headline-making trademark challenges, unveiling its first line of products in March after they appeared on her latest show, “With Love, Meghan.”
The collection, which includes $14 crepe mix, $15 flower sprinkles and more, is available to shop, with more drops expected seasonally.
Markle also has a ShopMy page where fans can buy the clothes and products they see her using.
In Wednesday’s profile, Markle clapped back at recent criticism that she is “unrelatable” and “out of touch.”
She asked, “Don’t they know my life hasn’t always been like this?”
Her mom, Doria Ragland, quipped, “Everyone is coming in hot these days.”
