Love is in the air — and apparently under the sea.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield has taken romance to jaw-dropping depths, proposing to his glamorous girlfriend Adriana Gillett while swimming with whale sharks in a wild underwater stunt.

The 62-year-old metal legend ditched candlelight for fins and face masks, holding up a handwritten sign beneath the waves that read: “Adriana Gillett will you marry me?” — all while surrounded by massive sea creatures.

Talk about a proposal with bite.

Gillett, 45, broke the happy news on Instagram, sharing snaps of the couple suited up in snorkeling gear.

“The BEST birthday trip surprise,” she gushed. “Swimming with whale sharks on Friday the 13th with the most unique, special and romantic proposal a Pisces could ever imagine.”

She added: “In a sea full of fish, we caught each other. Thank you God for putting us together.”

The engagement comes just four years after Hetfield split from his wife of 25 years, Francesca Tomasi.

The former couple, who share three kids, Cali, Castor, and Marcella, officially called it quits in 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.

Hetfield and Gillett started dating in 2023 — and things clearly moved fast from there.

The “Enter Sandman” rocker has long been candid about his personal struggles, previously admitting his marriage to Tomasi reached a crisis point due to his anger and alcohol issues.

In a 2017 interview with Joe Rogan, he revealed that he hit rock bottom after being kicked out of his home.

“Losing my family, that was the thing that scared me so much,” he said. “That was the bottom I hit, that my family is going to go away because of my behaviors that I brought home from the road. I got kicked out of my house by my wife. I was living on my own somewhere. I did not want that.

“She kicked my ass right out of the house, and that scared the s–t out of me. She said, ‘Hey, you’re not just going to the therapist now, and talking about this, you’ve got to go somewhere and sort this s–t out,’ so that’s what I did.”

But now, it’s a fresh chapter, and one that includes deep-sea proposals and second chances at love.

Meanwhile, Metallica is gearing up to dominate the stage once again with a massive Las Vegas residency at the Sphere.

The band promises eight explosive shows in October and, in true Metallica fashion, no two nights will be the same as they deliver a brand-new setlist every Thursday and Saturday from Oct. 1-31.
