MGK and Daughter Casie, 16, Have Father-Daughter Night Out as She Admits Red Carpets Are Still ‘Stressful’ (Exclusive)

Even MGK needs “backup” sometimes.

On Friday, Sept. 12, the 35-year-old musician (born Colson Baker and formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly) was honored with the Style Icon award at 12th Fashion Media Awards, hosted by The Daily Front Row. For his date to the New York City ceremony, the rapper-singer brought some trusty red carpet “backup” — his 16-year-old daughter, Casie Colson Baker.

The father-daughter duo chatted with PEOPLE on the red carpet of the star-studded awards show, held at Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room, during which MGK revealed he brought Casie to help with his nerves.

“I’m pretty nervous,” the Lost Americana musician tells PEOPLE, adding, “That’s why I called in my backup over here.”

When asked how it felt to be at the awards show with her dad, Casie — whom the musician shares with ex Emma Cannon — says “it’s really good.”

“I’m always a big support system for him, so it’s nice,” she says.

However, Casie later clarified, she isn’t necessarily used to red carpets — despite making several appearances alongside her famous dad over the years.

“No, I’m not,” she says of whether she’s grown accustomed to the events. “It’s stressful.”

After walking the red carpet together, the duo shared a sweet moment, MGK’s arm wrapped around Casie’s back as they took in a view of the N.Y.C. skyline together. They then lingered a bit longer, with the singer snapping some photos of his daughter prior to the ceremony, where his longtime pal Pete Davidson presented him with the Style Icon award.

MGK and Casie’s last father-daughter date night came at the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this summer. During their red carpet appearance at the June 21 event, Casie, who was 15 at the time, revealed that her dad is “like a hype man” to her.

The teen — who introduced her dad’s performance of his latest single “Cliché” at the awards show — told PEOPLE on the red carpet that the singer “definitely gives a lot of advice,” but clarified that he’s “more like a hype man.”

Casie also added that her dad (who got slimed at the event, much to her amusement) encourages her to be “myself.” The musician agreed, chiming in to add, “Yeah, I’m a cheerleader.”

Elsewhere during their Kids’ Choice Awards chat with PEOPLE, MGK — who welcomed baby daughter Saga Blade, 5 months, with ex Megan Fox in March — shared a bit about how life has been with a new baby in the mix.

“Women are in the rougher trenches of the newborn process, but my specialty is music and laughs and whatever I can do to make her smile and kind of get introduced to the world with love,” the singer said in part.

Casie, meanwhile, said that being an older sister so far has been “fun.” Added the teen: “It’s really just so cute. I love her so much. … It’s like, different, you know?”
