Michael Douglas, 79, says his kids’ college thought he was a grandfather on Parents’ Day: ‘That was a rough one’
Michael Douglas revealed he was once mistaken for his kids’ grandfather.
The “Fatal Attraction” star, 79, opened up about the awkward encounter, which occurred when he visited one of his children at college for Parents’ Day.
“‘This is not grandfather’s day, this is Parents’ Day,’” he recalled being told during an interview with the Telegraph published Saturday. “I say, ‘I am a parent.’”
Douglas didn’t disclose if he was visiting his 23-year-old son, Dylan, or his 21-year-old daughter, Carys, both of whom he shares with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Carys currently attends Brown University in Rhode Island, while Dylan graduated from the same college in 2022.
The actor also shares son Cameron, 45, with his ex-wife, Diandra Luker, whom he married from 1977 to 2000.
Also in the interview, the “Wall Street” star got candid about being an empty nester with Zeta-Jones, 54,
“Catherine and I have been together, it’ll be 25 years this year,” he continued.
“So it’s been a good ride and I’ve been very fortunate, happy with the choices that I’ve made and now am kind of really backing off and smelling the roses a little more, traveling more.”
While they enjoy their alone time, the couple also don’t mind bringing their kids along on their lavish trips — even if they have to bribe them.
“Catherine and I are blessed with the fact that our kids Dylan and Carys still like to travel with us,” Douglas said on the “Today” show last week.
“And so, we just finished five weeks in India at Christmastime. And we’re always planning next year, what our trips will be and where we’ll go.”
The “Basic Instinct” star shared that sometimes he and the “Mask of Zorro” actress will “seduce” their children “with good places to go.”
Though Douglas tries to keep it cool around his children, his youngest son previously told Page Six that the patriarch has a lot of “bad jokes.”
“More in terms of what he says, rather than who he is,” Dylan told us in April 2023 while at the Broadway opening of “Good Night, Oscar.”
“Just dad stuff. [He’s a] bit out of touch, bad jokes for sure!”
