Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones addressed his controversial past in an argument on social media.

After Jones, 53, posted a message perceived to be in support of ICE via X on Sunday, January 25, a follower commented, “Chipper long time no see, how’s the Hooters lady you impregnated while you were married.”

“She’s great…thanks for asking,” Jones responded. “My son is a collegiate baseball coach. Anything else….Asswhipe!”

Jones has admitted to having an 18-month extramarital affair with a Hooters waitress, which led to the birth of his son Matthew in 1998. Matthew is now a pitching and hitting coach at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Mississippi.

Chipper was married to his first wife, Karin Fulford, at the time of the affair. Fulford filed for divorce four months after the affair went public and the couple’s divorce was finalized in 2000.

When another follower on Monday called out Chipper for “cheating” on his wife, he argued there was more to the story.

“I wouldn’t declare those as sins really….damn ur pretty perfect,” Chipper wrote via X on Monday. “Do u think u know everything that happened in my first marriage in proper context? Or are u just going on what u read in the newspaper or heard on CNN?”

Shortly after news of the affair initially broke, Chipper took questions on a radio call-in show for three hours, where he owned up to his infidelity.

“I wanted people to know that as a man I stood up, and I took everybody’s heat head-on,” Chipper said, according to GQ. “I’d gone through a period before all this where I would come to the park and I would see the signs — ‘Chipper’s awesome’, ‘Chipper for president, blah blah blah — and I’m like, ‘If these people knew what I had done, would they feel the same way?’ I didn’t want to be a hypocrite anymore.”

Chipper also recalled his affair in his 2017 memoir Ballplayer, where he wrote about telling his wife about the extramarital relationship for the first time.

“I decided not to beat around the bush,” he wrote. “I would get it all out, and whatever happened after that, happened. It would probably get violent, and she’d probably never want to see my face again. Not that I’d be able to blame her. I just knew I had to take whatever came.”

Chipper continued, “When I walked in the front door, she was in the kitchen. I picked up a box of Kleenex on the counter, walked over to the dining room table, and sat down.”

After telling Fulford that the Hooters waitress was pregnant and she intended on having the baby, Chipper wrote that there was “a long silence, followed by uncontrollable sobbing from both of us.”

“Eventually we got up. I needed to gather myself,” he continued. “I heard something behind me, and when I turned around, I saw she had picked up a vase. She threw it at me, and it hit me on the side of the head. It didn’t break until it hit the floor and I wasn’t cut up or anything, but what was I going to say anyway? I deserved it. The only thing I could do was walk out of the room and give her time to cool off.”

Chipper was married to his second wife, Sharon Logonov, from 2000 to 2012 and the couple share three sons.

He has been married to his third wife, former Playboy model Taylor Higgins, since 2015 and the couple share two sons.
