Mrs Hinch has revealed she and husband Jamie had just “£11 in the bank” when they moved into their first home back in 2015.
The cleaning influencer, who has since gone on to make millions through social media and brand deals – including her latest one with Home Bargains – now lives in a £1 million farmhouse in Essex. But the 34-year-old wasn’t famous when she bought her first house nine years ago and had to save hard to do it.
Real name Sophie Hinchcliffe, the mum-of-two took to Instagram to share some throwback snaps of where she used to live nearly a decade ago before she began sharing her now viral cleaning tips on social media, which have earned her 4.8 million followers.
One showed the first flat Sophie and now husband Jamie, 45, used to live in before the boys Ronnie, four, and two-year-old Lennie came along, with their spaniel Henry, who was just a puppy at the time. In a poignant post, she wrote: “In mine and Jamie’s first flat that we rented together, we were trying to rent and save at the same time and I remember thinking, even if we never buy a house, we have Henry now, so it’s ok.”
Sophie went on to share that her and Jamie moved in with her parents for four months so they were able to save the final £3,000 they needed for their £16,000 deposit. She said: “That was the deposit amount we needed to buy (we used the Help to Buy scheme) And I’ll never ever forget the happiness we felt.”
She then shared a snap of the house they bought that shot her to fame during her early days on social media and told fans: “Then in July 2016 we moved in with £11 in our bank until our next pay day so we ordered a kebab and ate it in the garden, just me, Jamie and Henry. And little did I know that creating an Instagram page to document this very house would turn into my Mrs Hinch journey. I can’t even put it into words. This is where everything started and I’ll never EVER forget it.”
Paying tribute to husband Jamie, Sophie penned: “You’re an incredible man! I am so SO Proud of you. Thank you for being my backbone. Thank you for making our dreams come true. This wouldn’t have happened without you. NONE OF IT. I love you x.” In a message to fans, she added: “Thank you for being here all this time. And to my amazing followers… What can I say from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. And promise me… You’ll NEVER effin quit!!!”
