Naomi Watts Had ‘A Few Extra Secret Cries’ While Dropping Son Sasha At College
Naomi Watts’ son Sasha is all grown up and off to college!
The actress, 56, admitted the milestone was quite emotional for her, confessing via her Instagram on Wednesday, August 20, that there were a few tears shed while sending Sasha off to start his new chapter.
Watts, who shares Sasha, 18, with her ex, Liev Schreiber, posted a carousel of photos of the parents helping their son on his big move. (Watts and Schreiber were together for 11 years before splitting in 2016 and also share daughter Kai, 16.)
One picture showed Sasha perched on his new college dorm bed at the University of Southern California, while other photos showed Watts and Schreiber, 57, supporting their son as he moved in.
“We packed and unpacked, stacked and color coded. We walked and walked, woke up early with excitement,” Watts captioned the post. “Then we shopped and shopped, and sometimes fought about stupid stuff… We laughed, we cried, I had a few extra secret cries and maybe some not so private ones. We hugged a lot. We built things, we talked to robots, we ate good food. We got lost a bunch. We met so many great people. We had deep talks mixed in with a few fart jokes… 🤣 then gave advice about how the world works.”
Watts concluded the post, “But then remembered: he’s got this!! He did it!! He dreamed big and worked really hard for something wonderful. Go @sashapeteschreiber — we love you so much. #usc.”
Last month, Watts again posted about Sasha as he hit a different life milestone — turning 18.
The Mulholland Drive star paid tribute to her son in the caption of the July 25 post.
“Happy birthday sweet, darling @sashapeteschreiber,” she wrote. “18 today-and ready for the world! Cannot believe it.😊😭 Have so loved watching you grow into the kindest, most wonderful young man. Thank you for making me a first time mom.”
After she and Schreiber called it quits, Watts married Billy Crudup in 2023. Watts and Schreiber make it a priority to coparent their two children amicably.
“We’re doing things very differently. I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound,” Watts told Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine in 2019. “We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.”
Schreiber has also moved on and married Taylor Neisen in July 2023. They share daughter Hazel Bee, 2. Meanwhile, Crudup, 57, also has a son, William Atticus Parker, 21, with ex Mary-Louise Parker.
