Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton are enjoying a date night!

The Stranger Things stars were in attendance at the Broadway opening night of the play based on the Netflix hit on Tuesday, April 22 at New York City’s Marquis Theater.

The two walked the red carpet arm in arm, while Dyer, 30, wore a sage green long-sleeved sweater with a velvet black midi-skirt and black velvet platform sandals. Heaton, 31, sported an oversized gray pinstriped suit with a matching suit vest, a black button-down shirt, and a pair of black leather loafers.

Also in attendance were their costars Noah Schnapp, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Matt Modine, Brett Gelman and Priah Ferguson, and series creators, directors and executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow‘s starry opening follows the start of previews on March 28 and its London premiere in December 2023, where it is still playing.

Dyer and Heaton first met when they were cast on the Netflix series as high school lovebirds Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers. Within months of the show’s release in 2016, fans began to speculate that the two actors were a couple in real life.

The dating rumors intensified in January 2017 when they were spotted together at the Los Angeles International Airport after attending the Golden Globes. That December, the pair made their red carpet debut at the 2017 Fashion Awards in London.

They have since attended several events side-by-side, including the 2019 Giffoni Film Festival, the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards and the 2022 premiere of Stranger Things season 4.

Heaton and Dyer were photographed during a rare sighting in New York City in December 2023, marking the first time they had been seen in public together in eight months. They were most recently spotted at the Saint Laurent Fall RTW 2025 fashion show last month in Paris.

Their outing at the Stranger Things event comes ahead of the anticipated release of the show’s fifth and final season.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow serves as a prequel to the television series and takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Ind. in 1959 – decades before Mike Wheeler, Eleven and the young stars at the center of the 80s-set Netflix show were born.

The play focuses on high school-aged Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newby — the characters played on screen by David Harbour, Winona Ryder and Sean Astin — as it dives into the origin story of Henry Creel.

The stage show was conceived by the Duffer Brothers, as well as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child scribe Jack Thorne and Stranger Things writer and co-executive producer Kate Trefry. Three-time Tony winner Stephen Daldry directed the work with Justin Martin

Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions produce the play, alongside associate producer 21 Laps Entertainment. The creative team includes Miriam Buether (set design), Brigitte Reiffenstuel (costume design), Jon Clark (lighting design), Paul Arditti (sound design) and D.J. Walde (original music composition, orchestration, arrangements and supervision).
