Natasha Rothwell Reveals How She Claps Back at Fans Who Judge Her White Lotus Character (Exclusive)

Natasha Rothwell has a message for White Lotus fans who have a problem with her character Belinda’s decisioning.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at Jim Thompson’s White Lotus Soirée in Los Angeles on April 24, the actress, 44, addressed the bombshell season 3 finale and whether or not there was a possibility Belinda could turn evil.

Fans saw Belinda and her son (Nicholas Duvernay) ride off into the sunset after finessing a $5 million check from Greg (Jon Gries) in exchange for keeping quiet about his involvement in his late wife Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) murder. Despite Belinda’s initial conversations to start a wellness spa with her colleague and love interest, Pornchai (Dom Hetrakul), the season finale saw her renege on their plans after securing her bag.

“I don’t think so. I think her heart is good, but I do think that she was flirting with being a baddie by taking this money,” Rothwell told PEOPLE of the finale. “So I don’t think she’ll turn bad, but I do think there’s maybe a consequence by all those decisions have, sort of that yin and yang.”

She theorized that Belinda may face consequences “as a result of the decision she made,” rather than an act she commits.

“Who knows? I don’t even know if she’s coming back. But in my mind I’m like, yeah, that probably would be the thing,” she explains.

As for what happened between Belinda and Pornchai, Rothwell has this message for disappointed fans: “People tell me to my face, they’re just like, ‘Oh, you should have taken Pornchai with you.’ And I’m like, ‘No ma’am, no sir. She does not owe a man anything. She has decentered men. She is centering herself.'”

In White Lotus season 3, the How to Die Alone star reprised her season 1 role as Belinda, a spa manager at the fictional White Lotus resort in Maui.

Throughout the twisty first season, Belinda develops a close relationship with Coolidge’s Tanya as she guides her through spiritual meditations. The resort guest encourages Belinda to start her own wellness center and even offers to fund it. But the two have a sudden separation when Tanya cancels their dinner plans to go on a date, and Belinda abandons her business aspirations, mirroring her season 3’s ending with Pornchai.
