Nick Viall Reveals Wife Natalie Joy Experienced Another Miscarriage, Their 3rd This Year
Nick Viall’s wife Natalie Joy is recuperating after experiencing another miscarriage, the couple’s third this year.
Viall, 44, opened the Thursday, August 14, of his “The Viall Files” podcast by addressing cohost Joy’s absence from the episode as she heals from their latest pregnancy loss.
“As you can see, Natalie is not with us. There’s no easy way to talk about this. … Sadly, Natalie experienced another miscarriage,” the former Bachelor said. “It’s her third this year, our third this year. There’s no really good way to say it — it f***ing sucks. She’s obviously at home resting, healing, both physically and emotionally.”
Viall added, “We want to be vulnerable with you guys and, obviously, Natalie is a such a big part of the show. My partner in life and on the show, and obviously when she’s not here, people notice, and so we wanted to be open with you guys.”
The podcaster said that it was a “bit of a scary time” for him and Joy, 26, because they experienced two previous miscarriages this year. “It’s far less normal to have two and three [miscarriages] back to back,” he explained. “Now we’re kind of in that scary process of running tests and finding out more about ourselves, and it’s this weird thing of, like, you want them to find something, but you don’t want them to find something. … We’re in this very uncharted territory of fact-finding.”
Viall assured listeners that Joy is “doing OK physically and healing,” though the emotional toll of their latest loss has been hard for the couple.
“It’s been a whirlwind and we’re trying to get through it as a family. Part of this challenge is still appreciating what we have, having River, and life goes on,” Viall said, referring to daughter River Rose, 18 months. “It’s all very confusing how you’re supposed to mourn something like this … but we appreciate your support.”
In March, Joy opened up about her second miscarriage, which she said came just two months after she experienced her first.
“While mourning the loss of our second baby at the beginning of this year, I quickly and very unexpectedly found out I was pregnant again,” Joy wrote in an Instagram Stories post. “It took some time for me to accept what had happened only to be handed another chance so easily and so fast.”
“Eventually, I found so much happiness,” Joy added, detailing how she overcame her first pregnancy loss. “We were finally in a place of complete and utter gratitude. [Then], this past week, I miscarried again. I underwent a D&C this time, which was harder than I imagined.”
