Nicole Richie, Joel Madden react to Cameron Diaz, Benji also giving son a bird name

Joel Madden and Benji Madden’s sons’ names nearly match.

Nicole Richie and Joel, who share 14-year-old son Sparrow, shared their reaction to Cameron Diaz and Benji naming their baby boy Cardinal.

“I think it’s just a twin thing,” the fashion designer, 42, told “Entertainment Tonight” Tuesday, noting that she does not believe the Good Charlotte bandmates both purposefully pursued a bird theme. “Who knows?”

Joel, 45, later confirmed to the outlet that Cardinal’s name “was a surprise” to him.

“We’re all very happy, though,” he gushed, with Richie confirming Diaz, 51, and Benji’s family was “doing amazing.”

Cardinal’s parents revealed his secret arrival via surrogate in an Instagram post in March.

“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden,” the pair wrote. “He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures- but he’s a really cute.”

The duo are also the parents of daughter Raddix, who joined their family via surrogate in December 2019.

As for Richie and Joel, their eldest child is a 16-year-old daughter named Harlow.

While the teens have remained mostly out of the spotlight over the years, they made headlines Tuesday for their red carpet debut at the premiere of their mom’s movie “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.”

Harlow and Sparrow looked all grown up matching their parents in black outfits.

Richie previously explained to People that she does not often post her children to social media because they are “busy being kids.”

She noted in the 2019 interview that it has taken “a village” to raise them, with Joel’s brother and sister-in-law regularly lending a hand.

While Diaz and Benji have yet to reveal their children’s faces online, the actress often gushes about motherhood — including the time she admitted on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that she occasionally loses “her s–t” and “blow[s] up” at Raddix.

When those “challenging” times occur, Diaz reminds the toddler that “Mommy’s human, too.”
