The Osbourne family revealed new information about Ozzy Osbourne’s health before his death at age 76 in July.
During the Wednesday, Nov. 12, episode of their podcast, The Osbournes, where they honored the life and legacy of the late rock icon, Kelly, Sharon and Jack Osbourne discussed how Ozzy had been in the hospital two weeks before the final Black Sabbath show.
It was Jack, 40, who opened up about his father being in the hospital two weeks before the Back to the Beginning gig on July 5.
“The story, I don’t think even you know it, we had him in the hospital and we were just terrified that people were going to find out,” said Sharon, 73, of Ozzy’s undisclosed ailment.
She continued: “So we had all the security and the hospital… the hospital was amazing, they really were. The people at the front desk were told ‘nobody, if they ask for Ozzy, he’s not here. Nobody’s allowed up’, all of that.”
According to the television personality and businesswoman, the hospital “had pictures of all of us who were allowed up, and names.”
“This guy comes up and says ‘I want to see John Osbourne [Ozzy’s legal name]’ so of course there’s a red light and they go ‘who are you?’ and he goes ‘I’m his brother,'” Sharon recalled.
When she was contacted by security about Ozzy’s brother being at the hospital, she noted that there was “no way” that was true because his brother was unaware he was there.
“His sisters, his brother didn’t know. So I sent security down and I said, ‘Find out who this guy is, he’s definitely from the press,’” Sharon said.
She then revealed that it was the brother of another John Osbourne who was at that hospital and the Osbourne family “felt so terrible.”
Jack noted that despite this health struggles, Ozzy was determined to perform at the final Black Sabbath concert.
“It’s not like we forced him, wheeled him out there… to do this gig,” he said. “He was adamant… he was running the show. He said he knew exactly what he wanted. Yeah, and he was determined to do it.”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Jack opened up about the emotional conversation he had with his late father toward the end of his life.
He said that “everyone got to have their time with him.”
“I talked about [it on] the podcast, you know, my kids getting the stomach flu, and I was supposed to be in Portugal, and I wouldn’t have really got to see him,” said Jack.
He continued: “A lot of things kinda lined up in a — I don’t know. It’s f—ed up to say, but there was a level of perfection around it, because I don’t think there was anything left open. In the sense of, ‘Oh, I wish we’d have done this. Oh, I wish we’d have done that.’”
Kelly, 41, noted that she “just wanted more time” with Ozzy.
