Paul Mescal Makes Rare Comments About His ‘Deeply Precious’ Relationship with Gracie Abrams: ‘I Want to Protect’ It

Paul Mescal is keeping his romance cards close to the chest.

In a new Rolling Stone profile published Monday, Sept. 15, the 29-year-old History of Sound actor admitted that he doesn’t “know how to answer” the question of what made him go public with his relationship with Gracie Abrams.

“I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to. … This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally,” Mescal told the magazine.

It’s a rare comment from the Hamnet star about his relationship with singer-songwriter Abrams, 26, whom he was first linked to in June 2024 when they were spotted sharing a meal in London.

Since then, the couple have been seen walking through the streets of London and New York City and enjoying dates together, with a source telling PEOPLE in August 2024 that they were “hooking up.”

Though they didn’t walk the red carpet together, Mescal brought Abrams as his date to the Los Angeles premiere of his movie Gladiator II that NovemberThe film’s official TikTok account shared photos of the couple posing together at the premiere’s afterparty.

This past July, Abrams and Mescal seemingly went Instagram official, when the “That’s So True” hitmaker shared a series of photos in a post from her time at Glastonbury — one of which including her and Mescal lying on a blanket.

“❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Abrams simply captioned the post.

In a November cover-story interview for GQ‘, Mescal addressed his desire to keep his personal life private, telling the magazine he has “learned that there’s certain lines in the sand now for me that just are going to be impenetrable for the benefit of my own sanity.”

“The speculation has been kind of mad for the last x amount of years,” he continued. “I’m not comfortable inviting any access into that part of my life.”

He added, “How I am in my private life is so precious to me because I get very little of it, and it might be public interest, but it’s not public-obligated information.”
