Piers Morgan’s wife has given everyone a window into their marriage – even sharing a joke about ‘slapping’ the controversial star when he talks to much.

Celia Walden, who has been with the TV presenter for more than 15 years, shone a light on their relationship with a simple picture of a mug. She uploaded a shot before downing a cuppa. The following words were stamped onto the cup: “I’m sorry I slapped you but it didn’t seem like you would ever stop talking and I panicked,” suggesting Celia feels like giving Piers a ‘slap’ when he talks too much.

The journalist and novelist simply captioned the shot: “When you’re married to @piersmorgan ” Maybe he didn’t see the funny side – despite being active on Instagram – as Piers didn’t repost the hilarious glimpse into their life together, or comment on the post which she made from California.

In 2010 the couple got married in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, in a private ceremony. A year later they welcomed their first child together, Elise Pughe-Morgan. Celia takes a very light hearted approach to their marriage and left everyone giggling with an anniversary post, writing: “Once every century the perfect couple comes along and redefines the way other couples view love. We are totally not that couple. Happy 10th anniversary, Piers.”

During an appearance on Lorraine in 2022, she opened up about the pair’s six-week marriage sabbatical. “It was very good for both of us,” she said. “We didn’t have any problems before, it was nothing like that, but it’s been a long pandemic hasn’t it. I described it in the piece as like rebooting your computer, where sometimes, it’s not that there’s anything in particular that’s wrong, but it grinds to a bit of a halt, and you reboot it and suddenly it comes back to life.

“We had just over five weeks apart over the summer, and to be fair, it was sort of work-necessitated because Piers was interviewing serial killers, which he found preferable to being married to me, and I was working in LA, so he was all over.” But she did issue a warning to those who have any problems in their marriage to not try a sabbatical.

She continued: “We did message, we didn’t have many phone calls, but we did message, and I just found it so exciting when we saw each other again, it felt like the early days of our marriage, or even the early days of dating and I loved that. If you have any problem with your marriage, don’t do it,” she said, adding: “It doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder does it, if you’re in a perilous place for whatever reason.”
