President Donald Trump Slams George Clooney 1 Day After Actor Recalls Their Past Friendship
President Donald Trump has plenty to say about George Clooney‘s new life as a French citizen.
“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France which is, sadly, in the midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump, 79, shared via his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, December 31.
Trump went on to reference a 2024 op-ed written by Clooney, 64, who urged Joe Biden to step down from the presidential race and allow Kamala Harris to run against Trump instead.
“Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat,” Trump wrote.
The president further alleged that the Oscar winner “got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre movies,” claiming, “He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.”
News broke in late December that George and his wife, Amal Clooney, were granted French citizenship along with their 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
Just one day before Trump’s Truth Social takedown, George opened up about his history with the businessman before his political career began.
“I knew him very well,” he told Variety in an interview published on Tuesday, December 30. “He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants.”
Trump first took office in 2016 and was elected once again in 2024. “He’s a big goofball,” George claimed. “Well, he was. That all changed.”
Throughout his time as president, Trump has faced scrutiny from prominent figures in Hollywood. The Jay Kelly star has been a vocal critic, claiming in 2021 that Trump’s name will forever be found in the “dustbin of history.”
Despite facing jabs from within the Oval Office, George and Amal, 47, are looking forward to settling down with their kids overseas. The actor has spoken candidly about wanting to raise his children outside of the Hollywood spotlight.
“You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it,” George told Esquire in October. “But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
George explained that “they kind of don’t give a s*** about fame” in France, which eased his mind as a parent. “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A. … I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids,” he said.
