Raven-Symoné reflects on buying her own red carpet looks

Raven-Symoné reflected on purchasing her own red carpet looks as a teenager because designers didn’t stock her size.

“My fashion is never free,” the Disney alum shared on a recent episode of the “Tea Time with Raven & Miranda” podcast.

“I’ve had to buy it my whole entire life because of my size,” she told her wife and co-host, Miranda Maday.

The couple discussed how “twisted” it was that celebrities receive free products and treatments they “can actually pay for” because of their promotions.

“I didn’t get that free stuff growing up,” Raven-Symoné, 40, reiterated. “I had to buy everything that I wore on those carpets. I had to buy those thousand-dollar outfits because no one had my size.”

“So fashion could f–k off,” she added. “And I’m not sorry for saying that because no one ever took care of me back then.”

The “That’s So Raven” alum explained how she now wears”friends’ clothing” because they’re from “people that actually care about people [her] size, cuz now it’s like cool to be thick.”

Raven-Symoné has previously opened up about enduring body shaming while growing up as a Disney child star.

During a 2023 episode of her podcast, the actress admitted that she underwent “two breast reductions and lipo” before turning 18.

“There was paperwork involved,” she explained. “My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breasts reduced. He was like, ‘So you don’t feel bad, is there anything that you want?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?’”

Raven-Symoné continued, “So I got a twofer. It was just a mess, just being that young and the pain of it all.”

The “Cheetah Girls” star later went under the knife again when she gained weight, and her breasts got “too big.” However, she suffered from a seizure after the procedure.

She also got candid about being bullied about her weight during her time as Olivia Kendall on “The Cosby Show” from 1989 to 1992.

“I remember not being able to have the bagel or anything at — we would call it crafty, where it’s just a table of food, ready for you to eat whatever you want,” she said on “The View” in 2015.

” And I remember people would be like, ‘You can’t eat that. You’re getting fat!’ I’m like, ‘I’m seven! I’m hungry!’”
