‘Rehab Addict’ canceled by HGTV after Nicole Curtis is caught using racial slur
HGTV has canceled “Rehab Addict” after its star, Nicole Curtis, was caught on camera saying a racial slur.
On Wednesday, RadarOnline published leaked footage of Curtis blurting out the N-word after becoming frustrated while working on a renovation project.
Curtis appeared shocked at her own words, immediately following it up with, “What the f–k was that that I just said?”
She then asked a man off-camera to “kill that.”
“Oh, f–k my life,” she then said.
“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict.’ Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees – it does not align with the values of HGTV,” the network said in a statement to Page Six.
“Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.”
Curtis, 49, expressed regret to TMZ on Wednesday, telling the outlet, “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”
She added, “I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared,” speaking of the network. “It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career. My focus, at this moment is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”
Curtis also took to her Instagram account Wednesday and posted: “There is more to this, but my family comes first and I need to be mom right now more than anything else. I will take the time to be as I’ve always been with you, transparent and honest.”
Reps for Curtis didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
“Rehab Addict,” which documented Curtis restoring homes to their former glory, started airing on the DIY Network in 2010 before moving to HGTV in 2014.
The show ran for eight seasons and new episodes were scheduled to begin airing on Feb. 11, before HGTV made the decision to cancel it.
“Rehab Addict” has also been removed from HBO Max and Discovery+, where it was previously available to stream.
