Rob Dyrdek Breaks Silence on ‘Ridiculousness’ Cancelation: ‘This Was Divine Timing’
Rob Dyrdek is looking on the bright side of Ridiculousness coming to an end after 46 seasons.
“I just want to say thank you to every single person that ever watched any of my shows,” Dyrdek, 51, said in a video uploaded via X on Monday, November 10. “19 years, four different shows, 2034 episodes. I’m so grateful.”
Dyrdek expressed his gratitude to MTV and “all the people who allowed [a] riding skateboard videos skit into a television show.” He also thanked his family and costars over the years, including the late Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, former cohost Chanel West Coast and current cohosts Sterling “Steelo” Brim and Lauren “Lolo” Wood. (Boykin died in May 2017 at age 45 after suffering a heart attack.)
“This was divine timing,” Dyrdek said of MTV’s decision to end Ridiculousness. “I had really evolved over these last few years and I was growing out of having that ballcap and standing on the Ridiculousness stage and dancing.”
The former professional skateboarder learned a lot about being “deeply efficient” while coming up to “12” episodes of the clip show a day.
“It was because I was so committed to this time mastery goal of mine, of understanding all of my time and optimizing all my time,” he reflected. “And that’s what really led to the show being so efficient and my overall quality of life being amazing”.
While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye, Dyrdek is ready to move on to his next project, his new app Existence.
“This is the new studio that I am trading for the Ridiculousness studio,” he said. “Because as fate would have it, the week my show ends and my run on MTV ends is the same week that I launch what I consider my magnum opus, my time intelligence platform Existence.”
According to the app’s website, Existence quantifies a user’s time and helps analyze the data to improve a person’s quality of life.
Us Weekly confirmed last month that Ridiculousness was canceled after 46 seasons. Ridiculousness will continue to air on MTV and will premiere previously recorded new episodes into 2026.
A source familiar with the situation told Us at the time that MTV is working to “reimagine” the network. The decision to axe Ridiculousness came as MTV is looking to feature a more “curated slate” going forward to embrace its “experimental DNA.” New content will explore “fresh formats, different creative voices, and refreshed programming,” per the insider.
Dyrdek got his start on MTV with his and Boykin’s reality series Rob & Big in 2006. Three years later, he starred on Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory before becoming the host of Ridiculousness in 2011.
“Rob & Big aired [when] I was 32 years old,” he said during an appearance on “Trading Secrets” in 2021. “I was looking at it as a platform. I then saw what I got from the platform. I knew how bad they wanted me to do a show.”
