Dave Navarro has hit a new high note in life!

The Jane’s Addiction guitarist, 57, married actress and fashion designer Vanessa DuBasso on Saturday, March 29, at Dunskey Estate in Stranraer, Scotland. The couple tells PEOPLE they had always dreamed of tying the knot at a castle, and when they saw pictures of Dunskey — a secluded coastal estate featuring an Edwardian castle surrounded by acres of woodlands and punctuated with views of the sea — they were instantly captivated by the “enchanting” venue.

“It exudes a moody, ethereal charm. Surrounded by a towering forest, a serene lake and the ruins of a castle along the shoreline, it felt like stepping into a fairytale,” says DuBasso, 31, who is the founder of VANTABLACKLAMM, a collection of hand-painted leather looks.

Navarro adds: “We wanted our wedding to feel like a dream. It was important to us to find a place that felt unlike anywhere we had ever been, a place that embraced nature and transported us to another world. We wanted our loved ones to share in this intimate experience.”

The castle setting perfectly complemented the couple’s overarching vision of a “Gothic, darkly romantic atmosphere,” the tone of which was first set at their rehearsal dinner, held on Friday, March 28, via lots of black candles and deep-colored flowers.

DuBasso and Navarro — who also famously played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1993 to 1998 — exchanged handwritten vows in a forest ceremony featuring a series of gold candelabra at the altar, an aisle lined with white roses and chandeliers hung from the trees to create “an almost celestial ambiance.”

“I really wanted the wedding day to feel like a piece of heaven,” DuBasso notes of the celebration, which was planned by Wendy Parker Events.

For Saturday’s ceremony — which was officiated by Ali Orr Ewing, the owner of Dunskey Estate — the bride wore white with subtle black details, while the groom sported all-black attire from Generation Tux, which DuBasso says was “a reflection of our contrasting yet complementary spirits.” She collaborated with Tina Wong, the designer and owner of Grace + Ivory, on her romantic, Victorian-inspired bridal look.

Led by DuBasso’s vision, Wong designed a Marie Antoinette-style corset detailed with three different appliqué styles to create an intricate pattern. The corset’s front was adorned with a cross emblem featuring delicate, freshwater pearl beading. The back had black velvet lacing in a nod to Navarro’s black suit.

DuBasso’s corset was paired with a flowing, floor-length skirt which was tied with a bow. “It was designed to feel airy — like an iridescent cloud,” says the After We Collided star, who completed her bridal ensemble with white Mary Jane pumps by Versace and a pair of angel wings.

Explaining the unique accessory choice, she says, “Dave calls me his ‘breathing cherub.’ ”

DuBasso was styled by Something White Styling.

She struck a darker, more dramatic note with her rehearsal dinner look, choosing a see-through black lace dress also designed by Grace + Ivory, topped with a military-style leather jacket from Versace’s Fall 2019 runway show, which DuBasso says she’s “obsessed with.” She finished her look with Versace combat boots.

Navarro’s white gold wedding band and DuBasso’s white gold eternity band with 5 carats of oval diamonds were crafted by Simon G. Jewelry. The couple also dazzled in several other diamond pieces from the designer, including the bride’s white gold diamond tennis bracelet and necklace.

As the intimate forest ceremony unfolded, a three-piece quartet performed live classical music. DuBasso walked down the aisle to Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” After the newlyweds sealed the deal with a kiss, the music segued to “Spring 1” from Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons. Fireworks lit up the evening sky in celebration of the pair officially being declared husband and wife.

When the reception kicked off, the newlyweds and their guests — who included comedian Pete Davidson — enjoyed a dinner featuring pasta, filet mignon and seafood, as well as an array of traditional Scottish desserts.

When it came to the wedding cake, DuBasso, who is Swedish, had her heart set on a princess cake, a classic domed confection consisting of layers of sponge, raspberry jam, vanilla custard and whipped cream and topped with a marzipan overlay. While the cake is typically green, DuBasso and Navarro’s was decorated with white icing, black cathedral patterns and roses.

After dinner, everyone celebrated and danced the hours away in the castle’s dungeon, pausing to enjoy some pizza as “a cozy, late-night snack.”

The day after their ceremony, the couple planned to close out their wedding weekend festivities with some gun shooting, encounters with owls and different birds through Dunskey’s “Falconry” experience, a barbecue in the woods and a bonfire on the beach. “I wanted our last day to overflow with color, an expression of life,” DuBasso tells PEOPLE.

Navarro and his now-wife met eight years ago, after the rock star saw a movie trailer featuring DuBasso and was smitten at first sight. He reached out to the movie’s director, who happens to be a friend, and asked if the model-turned-actress would be interested in a date with him.

DuBasso recalls being equally captivated by the six-time Grammy-nominated musician. “I was immediately drawn to Dave’s green chestnut eyes, tattoos and dark comedic humor,” she tells PEOPLE. “His whole being is powerfully magnetic, and it was love at first sight.”

Reflecting on past relationships, she says everything “was different” with Navarro. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone,” she explains. “He’s the love of my life.”

Navarro jokingly recalls how he was so overtaken with excitement when he was preparing to pop the question to DuBasso that his carefully-laid proposal plans went right out the window.

“I had this grand proposal planned, but my excitement got the best of me. I couldn’t contain myself, and it ended up happening in our kitchen around 3 a.m., just the two of us,” he says, adding, “In hindsight, it was perfectly intimate — our own magical moment.”

DuBasso, who describes herself and Navarro as “soulmates,” remembers being “extremely lost and stuck in a cycle of self-destruction” before the musician came into her life. “Dave saved me from myself,” she says. “I love who I am now because he’s shown me who I can be and what I’m capable of. He’s kissed all my scars and I don’t know if either of us would be alive today if it weren’t for each other.”

Adds Navarro: “We support one another in ways that we’ve never experienced before, through the most darkest times and the lightest times. We can always rely on each other to catch the other if one of us slips.”

Now that they’re married, the two are looking forward to settling down together in “a home immersed in nature, somewhere far away where we can feel free to create our little life away from the chaotic and busy world,” DuBasso says.

But first, they plan to enjoy a honeymoon exploring all the sights of Edinburgh, particularly its many historic castles.

“Dave is also super excited about going on the hunt for holy relics,” DuBasso notes. “It is something he has been fascinated with his whole life, and he is going to try to find one of the locations where the Grail is supposedly housed.”
