Sabrina Carpenter Puts Retro Spin on ‘Espresso’ for The Tonight Show — Watch!
There’s no such thing as too much Sabrina Carpenter.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, the singer-songwriter performed her hit song “Espresso” on The Tonight Show.
Wearing a baby blue signature leotard, the “Juno” singer performed the song with a live band and trio of backup singers.
At one point in the performance, Carpenter, 25, made her way to host Jimmy Fallon’s desk, spun in his chair and laid down atop the desk.
The “Fast Times” performer released her pop hit “Espresso” in April as a single from her sixth and latest studio album Short n’ Sweet. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album spent two weeks atop the Billboard Hot 200 chart after being released in August.
In August, Carpenter opened up about her intention behind the single to The Guardian.
“It was a manifestation tactic, because no one liked me romantically at that point – no one was obsessed with me,” she told the outlet. “I didn’t have anyone I was even talking to.”
The “Feather” performer — who is currently on her Short n’ Sweet tour — added that she’s “always been a bit delusional, in that sense.”
In June, she opened up to Rolling Stone about the song’s success.
“My mom has been like, ‘Do you feel crazy right now?’” Carpenter said of the song. “I just love that people get my sense of humor.”
She also told the publication that the track was inspired by a trip to a crêperie while she was in France. Her time spent there turned into a catchy chorus that she remains unapologetic about. “I decided to put that burden on other people,” Carpenter teased.
That same month, the success of “Espresso” also led to a collaboration with rising pop star and Van Leeuwen for an espresso-flavored ice cream.
Since then, stars like Adele and Keith Urban have revealed their big fans of the song.
