See Which Two Team Gwen Contestants Were Chosen to Go to The Voice Live Shows
Team Gwen is ready for the live shows!
Tuesday, Nov. 19, marked the beginning of the playoffs on The Voice with Team Gwen’s top five. Unfortunately, Stefani could only choose two to take with her to the live shows.
In the episode, Stefani, 55, brought in mgk (also known as Machine Gun Kelly) as her playoff advisor. Together, they rehearsed with each remaining contestant.
The first performance was by Jose Luis, who sang a rendition of Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.”
Then, Jake Tankersley took the stage for a performance of Cody Johnson’s “The Painter.” After his performance, he grew emotional thinking about his wife.
After Tankersley was Gabrielle Zabosky, who put on an emotional performance of Roxette’s “Listen to Your Heart.”
Jan Dan then sang “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas, bringing Stefani to tears with the performance
The final performance was by Sydney Sterlace, who chose to sing Taylor Swift’s “Betty.” Afterward, coach Michael Bublé called her a “superstar.”
When it came time for Stefani to make her decision, all five contestants were called to the stage.
“I feel proud, and I feel honored that each one of you guys let me hang out with you and help you. This is really, really difficult. One thing that saves me all the time is that we’re all going home and this is just a moment in your life,” the “Just a Girl” singer said.
She added, “Whatever you do with this moment is going to be the next part of your life. That does give me comfort. I’m going by who I think I can coach and help grow into that identity that they already are showing me that they have.”
Stefani grew emotional and expressed feeling “so proud” to be their coach — and she learned “something from each and every” member of her team. Then, she revealed her decision.
“The first person from Team Gwen that I’m picking is Jan Dan,” she said.
In a one-on-one, Stefani opened up about the decision.
“This decision was super hard for me. I had to pick Jan Dan. He’s just, he’s too unique. He has so much taste and he has such a perspective that I just wanted to give him the opportunity to share that with America in the lives,” she said.
For her second choice, Stefani went with “the one that really moves me and who I think I can coach.”
That was Sterlace. “I had to go with Sydney. It was just a gut feeling. She moves me. She gets on that stage and I want to see more… I just can’t let her go home,” Stefani concluded. “These playoffs are just so emotional.”
