Sharon Stone Claims She Was Asked to Step Down From ‘Another Simple Favor’ After Getting 2 Roles

Sharon Stone is giving fans some more insight into her Another Simple Favor absence.
“I was hired by the director to play a part on the show after I had a really lovely meeting with him,” Stone, 67, said on the Tuesday, June 24, episode of the “LadyGang” podcast with Keltie Knight, Jac Vanek and Becca Tobin. “Then he called me and said, ‘We want to put a different actress in that part, would you take a different part in this movie?’”
Stone claimed that she agreed to do a different role and asked what new character she would portray.
“He told me and I said, ‘Sure, that sounds fun. I’d do that part too,’” she claimed, not offering any additional details.
After having that second discussion, Stone got “a call back again.” The actress claimed that she was asked if she would mind if they gave that second role to “someone else” and wanted her to “step down” from the movie.
“And so I stepped down,” she said.
Stone did not share who ended up taking both roles she was initially offered. However, she did poke fun at Anna Kendrick’s viral comment about taking ayahuasca.
“I noticed one of the leads mentioning that she couldn’t remember doing the show because she had taken ayahuasca and that made me laugh,” Stone recalled. “And I thought perhaps I should have taken ayahuasca and forgotten all about this situation as well.”
While Stone was upset with missing out on the job at first, she’s now grateful to have not been in the movie as it was surrounded by controversy. Another Simple Favor made headlines amid Blake Lively‘s ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director, Justin Baldoni.
“I think in a big way I’m kind of glad that I didn’t get tangled up in all of that,” she said.
Another Simple Favor is the sequel to 2018’s thriller A Simple Favor, which starred Kendrick, Lively, Henry Goulding, Andrew Rannells and Aparna Nancherla. The second installment added Allison Janney, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins and Alex Newell in the Paul Feig-helmed project.
Following Another Simple Favor’s premiere in March, Stone raised eyebrows when she made a shady comment about the movie on social media.
“I LOVED being cast and removed from my role unexpectedly for no reason at all LOVED it 👏👏👏,” she replied under an E! News Instagram reel about the film.
Us Weekly reached out to the film’s distributor, Amazon MGM Studios, for comment at the time but did not hear back. Multiple outlets reported at the time Stone was in talks to be in Another Simple Favor but the financials did not work out.
