Socialite headed to Malta as ambassador

This New York socialite is booking her trip to Malta now that Tesla billionaire Elon Musk has been driven from Washington, DC.

Somers Farkas — the high-society fixture at tony galas around town like the Central Park Conservancy’s Hat Lunch, who’s also a trustee of the NYC Police Foundation and an honorary FDNY battalion chief — has finally been confirmed as the Trump administration’s ambassador to the Republic of Malta.

We’d previously reported that Farkas, who’s married to Alexander’s department store heir Jonathan Farkas, served on the committee to choose the president’s White House Fellows — but that her proposed Malta gig was in peril when Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency were threatening to shutter the American embassy in the European locale, as well as in Luxembourg and other obscure burgs.

Last week, Farkas was successfully confirmed along with a block of other ambassadorial candidates.

It was also a good week for her hubby: A pal said of Somers’ appointment: “Jonathan is especially excited because his mother, the late Ruth Farkas, was an ambassador to Luxembourg under President Nixon [from 1973 to 1976]. This is one of the first times in American history that a single family has produced two female ambassadors.”

Jonathan’s latest Broadway show, “Chess,” starring Lea Michelle and Aaron Tveit, also just started previews. The cult musical — which had only 68 regular performances on Broadway before closing in 1988 — is making a big comeback nearly 40 years later.

It spawned a hit soundtrack by two members of ABBA, including the smash “One Night in Bangkok,” which hit No. 3 in 1985 before the show’s West End run in 1986.

But the whole thing ultimately became more of an answer to a trivia question rather than a classic.

The rejuvenated revival has a new book by “Empire” co-creator Danny Strong, and had musical fans lining up for tickets as early as 3 a.m. outside the Imperial Theatre when they went on sale, we reported.

The new version is produced by Tom Hulce, Robert Ahrens and the Shubert Organization, along with Creative Partners Productions. It’s being presented via Three Knights, the Shubert Organization and Robert Fox Ltd.
