Sofia Coppola ‘So Proud’ as Daughter Romy Mars Launches Music Career with 2 Debut Songs — Listen!

Romy Mars is entering her songbird era.
The 17-year-old daughter of Priscilla director Sofia Coppola and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars launched her music career on Wednesday, May 22, with the release of two singles, “Stuck Up” and “From a Distance.”
The debut pair of bedroom-pop tracks — both written by Romy and produced by singer-songwriter Claud — showcase the teen singer’s soft-spoken vocals through honest lyrics as she tells a confessional story of a summer romance turned sour.
On “Stuck Up,” she channels teenage angst as she sings, “Is this like a dream or a nightmare / But I’m stuck in a haze / On or ahead and I can’t find your face.”
Meanwhile, on the explicit ”From a Distance,” Romy sings with more attitude, saying, “Always gonna be somebody else you’re f—ing seeing / Always gonna be stuck in these eyes I keep believing.”
Coppola celebrated her daughter’s music foray on Instagram, posting a photo of the teen captioned, “So proud of Romy’s first 2 songs out today!”
The Oscar-winning Lost in Translation director also thanked Claud for producing Romy’s two-song EP, also titled Stuck Up, before pointing her followers to her “link in bio.”
Romy’s pop career launch comes over a year after the then-16-year-old went viral after revealing in a TikTok video that she was grounded for trying to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland on her dad’s credit card to have dinner with a “camp friend.”
In the video, the newfound singer also shared that she decided to film the TikTok — which showed her casually making a vodka pasta sauce — because she was “already grounded” and her parents’ “biggest rule is I’m not allowed to have any public social media accounts.”
“Here’s why,” she explained while holding up a Grammy award with a sarcastic smile. “Because they don’t want me to be a nepotism kid, but TikTok is not gonna make me famous, so it doesn’t really matter.”
These days, Romy paving her own way with her music, now available on streaming platforms.
Though she’s been mostly raised out of the spotlight, the teen pop artist quietly made her red carpet debut at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 17 for the world premiere of her grandfather Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis sci-fi flick, which stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne and more.
