A former Strictly Come Dancing finalist is said to have landed a role as the host of an “exciting” new dating show.
Joe Sugg, 32, will reportedly host an upcoming pilot, with the title the World’s Most Honest Game Show, for the BBC. The new show is said to feature an “exciting new dating format all about honesty,” which includes “a twist or two”.
It’s been claimed that the content creator – who reached the final of Strictly in 2018 – will bring a group of singletons together. They will reportedly share their “good and ugly truths” with potential partners on the upcoming show.
A pilot episode is reportedly being made in collaboration with Joe’s production company Final Straw Productions. It’s been teased that although only the pilot’s been commissioned, a full series could be in the works in the future.
A source told the Sun that it’s an “exciting” format. They said: “It’s an exciting new dating format all about honesty, which means the singletons will find out both the best bits and the bad bits of the other contestants they fancy.”
Further teasing about it, the source added: “The singles won’t be able to keep their not-so-good personality traits under wraps for long, with Joe helping both sides of each couple find out the truth. Of course, there’s also going to be a twist or two to keep things interesting.”
The news comes following the BBC’s I Kissed A Boy, which launched last year as the UK’s “first ever gay dating show”. Host Dannii Minogue will return for follow-up series I Kissed A Girl, though a release date has yet to be announced.
The BBC announced in 2022 that it would be working with Joe’s production company on projects. Joe said at the time that he was “excited” to partner with BBC Studios and teased that he had ideas that could be developed in the future. He said: “I am really excited to partner with BBC Studios on this future venture with Final Straw Productions.”
He added: “My head has always been so full of ideas, so to be able to have the opportunity to build a great team who can help bring these ideas to life with the backing of BBC Studios and their guidance and expertise is fantastic.”
The collaboration was announced four years after Joe had competed on Strictly in 2018. He had been partnered with professional dancer Dianne Buswell, now 34, for the experience and the pair are now in a relationship.
Joe and Dianne, who developed a romance after being partnered together, reached the final of Strictly together that year and placed as runners-up alongside Steps member Faye Tozer and her dance partner Giovanni Pernice. That series was instead won by presenter Stacey Dooley and her partner Kevin Clifton.
