Sydney Sweeney channels Cate Blanchett Golden Globes 2005 gown in custom dress

Sydney Sweeney boned up on her red carpet history.

The “Housemaid” star, 29, paid homage to Cate Blanchett’s 2005 Golden Globes look — a cornflower blue Jean Paul Gaultier design with an airy sheer cape — in a custom look-alike gown.

Sweeney shared a mirror selfie in the dress over the weekend as part of a carousel of summer snaps, though it’s unclear what occasion called for the black-tie moment.

Her modern update was designed by the Paris-based label Guérin. The blue silk georgette draped from the shoulder and hugged her waist, with a single silk flower pinned at her hip.

Designer Antoine Guérin shared close-up photos of the details, including the nude mesh corset hidden beneath the floaty fabric. The boning gave the silhouette structure and emphasized Sweeney’s hourglass frame.

Guérin also stitched the initials “S.S.” on the label in matching pale blue.

Sweeney’s stylist, Athina Arostegui, revealed the inspiration behind the gown on Instagram with a photo of Blanchett at the 2005 ceremony.

The Oscar winner’s version also featured an asymmetrical neckline and flowing train, though hers had a more relaxed fit without the tight-laced underpinning. Instead of a lone bloom, the silk jersey of Blanchett’s dress was tucked and folded into blossoms that trailed down the side of the bodice and hip.

The Blanchett look joins a growing list of Hollywood homages.

At the 2024 GLAAD Media Awards, Sweeney nodded to her favorite rom-com, “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” in a custom silvery blue Miu Miu gown inspired by Julia Roberts’ lavender maid of honor dress.

In February, she hit the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in a vintage Ceil Chapman design previously worn by Marilyn Monroe on Life magazine’s April 1952 cover.
