Taron Egerton is a good big brother!
The 35-year-old Rocketman actor confirmed that his younger sisters are “fundamentally not impressed” with his work during a Tuesday, July 29 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
However, he revealed that there was probably one way that he could impress at least his youngest sister Mari: getting to know Benson Boone.
Egerton said that his 12-year-old sister is a big fan of the singer and asks him the same question whenever they talk.
“Every time I get on FaceTime with her, I say, ‘Hi, Mari. How are you? How’s school going? Is everything good? Is anything exciting happening?’ And she’ll go, ‘Do you know Benson Boone?’ ” he shared, adding that he has to tell his sister that they have not yet met since the last time that the siblings had spoken.
He continued, saying, “She’s like, ‘Ok. Be good if you knew Benson Boone.’ ”
The Kingsman star proceeded to direct the following request to the 23-year-old “Beautiful Things” crooner: “So Benson Boone, if you are watching, please, please can me and my little sister come and see you in concert? Because I’ll get some cool points from it.”
During their interview, host Seth Meyers noted that most of Egerton’s action movies would be unlikely to appeal to a teenage girl. However, he brought up his participation in 2016’s Sing and the 2021 sequel Sing 2, saying that his kids were “huge fans.”
In the movies, Egerton plays a young gorilla with musical ambitions.
It does seem like the sort of role that would resonate with a younger demographic. However, the actor admitted that he likely would not know his sisters’ thoughts for one reason.
“You know, I think even if they were remotely impressed, they would never show me,” he said. “They would never, ever let on because that would be capitulation. That would be to give me too much status.”
He added, “The other… There’s this narrative in our house that I am the favorite child. So it’s made it something of a battle.”
With that revelation, Egerton realized, “Their dream is probably the bad guy actually get me in the film.”
Egerton’s half-sisters have largely stayed out of the spotlight. However, Mari and her older sister Rosie joined the actor and his family at the 2020 Golden Globes. During the ceremony, he picked up the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, thanks to his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman.
More recently, he brought them up while discussing his relationship with social media on the Today show in July 2025.
“I genuinely don’t think it’s good for your mental health,” he said about social media, which he returned to after a years-long absence to promote his movie She Rides Shotgun. “I will be hopping back off once the film is out.”
Taking it a step further, he referenced his sisters, saying that he was also concerned about them.
His new movie sees him pairing up with much younger actress Ana Sophia Heger, who plays his daughter.
Describing her as “off-the-charts,” Egerton noted that she was only 10 when they filmed, but that she was full of talent.
“I implore you. Please watch our movie. It’s a little engine that could. Don’t see it for me. Don’t see it for the action. See it for this kid, who is extraordinary,” he said about the new thriller.
He continued, sharing, “There are moments in the film where she is so good, and she portrays distress and fear and panic so well that you become concerned for her safety. But the moment they call cut, she wipes the tear from her eye, and she looks at you like she knows she’s nailed it.”
Recalling their first meeting on Zoom, Egerton said that he wanted to use his skills to “be a support to this kid.” However, she impressed him when he asked if she was nervous and tried to reassure her.
“She went, ‘I am nervous, but I know I’m ready.’ And I was like… I sort of sat back in my seat,” he admitted.
She Rides Shotgun arrives in theaters on Aug. 1.
