The cast of Ted Lasso is kicking off season 4 with a bang.

Apple TV+ announced on Monday, July 21, that filming had begun on the series’ surprise fourth season in Kansas City, Missouri. Days later, stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple and Brendan Hunt were celebrating onstage with Mumford & Sons.

The cast members surprised fans at the band’s July 24 show in Kansas City as they performed the show’s theme song, which the frontman Marcus Mumford wrote and performed.

Fan videos quickly circulated online, capturing the crowd’s excitement at the surprise appearance.

Sudeikis, Waddingham, Temple and Hunt walked onstage as the band played the opening notes of the theme song, and as the song picked up, Waddingham and Temple were jumping up and down and dancing, while Sudeikis attempted to assist the lead singer’s performance, according to a video posted by a fan on X.

Waddingham and Temple were hugging and swaying back and forth as the theme song played, and Waddingham, 50, stepped up to join Marcus at the microphone briefly, too.

When the song ended, Sudeikis, 49, gave the lead singer a big hug, and Waddingham and Temple, 36, then did the same.

The actor briefly got onto the mic himself, too, and shouted out his hometown, to the crowd’s delight, before the cast said their goodbyes, thanked some other members of the band, and left the stage.

Season 4 of Ted Lasso will see a majority of the cast return, but there are a few changes in store.

Per the streamer, Waddingham will reprise Rebecca Welton, Temple will reprise Keeley Jones and Jeremy Swift will return as Leslie Higgins.

Brett Goldstein and Hunt are also confirmed to return as Roy Kent and Coach Beard, respectively.

However, Phil Dunster, who played moody AFC Richmond player Jamie Tartt in the first three seasons, will not be a series regular on the upcoming season, according to Deadline.

The English actor, 33, has reportedly signed on to be a regular in a new HBO project, also helmed by Ted Lasso EP Bill Lawrence, which will prove to be a scheduling conflict. It’s possible that Dunster could reprise his role as Jamie in a guest capacity, though, at some point in season 4.

Ted’s son Henry has also been recast and will be played by Grant Feely, who replaces Gus Turner, who played the character for the first three seasons.

In the upcoming installment, the titular character takes on a new challenge: coaching a women’s team.

The official synopsis for season 4 reveals that, despite Ted heading back to the U.S. to coach his son’s soccer team in the season 3 finale, he’s back at work in the U.K.

“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would,” the synopsis reads.
