Teen Mom: Leah Messer Tearfully Wishes for Relationship with Daughter Aliannah That’s Not ‘Always Surrounded by Medical Stuff’

Leah Messer is frustrated by the fact that she often has to deliver difficult news to one of her kids.
On the Thursday, April 17 episode of Teen Mom: Next Chapter, Leah opens up to her sister, Victoria, about her concerns as they begin the process for her twins, Aleeah and Aliannah, 15, to get their learner’s permits and begin driving.
While any teen parent is nervous for their child to hit the road and Leah is facing double that, she is also operating with concerns about what driving will look like for Ali, who lives with muscular dystrophy.
“I think it makes me scared that she is legally blind in the one eye… She would have to actually turn her whole head to see on that side, but she’s already accustomed to that because that’s all she’s ever known,” Leah says.
“And muscular dystrophy plays a part in this too, but not being able to drive is definitely off the cards for her,” she continues, explaining Ali wouldn’t handle being deprived of that freedom well.

The mom of three also acknowledges that the decision is out of their hands. “Then what if they say it’s not possible? Like, that’s a f—ing challenge,” she says.
“I feel like I always have to be the one to drop the bombs, the reality, on Ali. And that’s not really saying much. It’s Corey’s personality. He’s their dad, and maybe it’s a dad thing. But I don’t want her to look at me like I just don’t believe in her more,” Leah continues.
“I can shoot it straight, but I think it drives a wedge in my relationship with Ali, too. So now, I’m going to let the doctor deliver the news. I’m not saying anything. I’m not prepping her for anything. I just want to go through whatever they tell us with [her], because I just want to have a relationship with her and it not always be surrounded around medical stuff.”
Tearfully, she continues, “I just want to be your mom and I want to support you, whatever that looks like.”
Thankfully, Ali was cleared and able to get her permit alongside her twin sister. The proud mom took a selfie with her teen, who proudly held her permit and smiled.
“Congratulations @aliannahsimms YOU DID IT! 🎉🎉,” she captioned the snap.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
