Tennis star Kei Nishikori is speaking out amid cheating accusations.
The Olympian, 35, addressed allegations that he had an affair with a model in a statement shared with the Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun. He and his wife, Mai Yamaguchi, have been married since 2020 and share two children, per the outlet.
“I deeply apologize for causing discomfort to everyone who supports me: tennis fans, associations, sponsors, and other related parties, and for their concern and inconvenience due to my dishonest behavior,” Nishikori said in the statement, translated by both the New York Post and Daily Mail.
“Additionally, I deeply regret making my wife and children feel hurt,” he added. “Moving forward, in order to fulfill my role as a responsible member of society, I will focus solely on tennis competitions and achieving results. We will do everything possible to regain their trust.”

Nishikori has not shared a statement about the allegations on social media at this time. A contact for Nishikori did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further comment on Saturday, June 21.
The tennis champion was photographed visiting the apartment of model Azuki Oguchi last week in Japan, the New York Post and Daily Mail reported, citing Shukan Bunshun. He and Oguchi first met in 2022 in Honolulu, Hawaii, according to the outlets.
Late that same year, Nishikori said on Instagram that he and his wife had officially had a wedding ceremony and reception after they hadn’t “been able to hold” one due to Covid restrictions.
“Thank you so many people for celebrating in a big way,” he wrote in a translated Instagram post, alongside wedding snaps, calling it “another new start for us.”
Nishikori is currently listed as the world’s No. 66 player, per ESPN and ATP Tour. He recently had to withdraw from both the French Open and Wimbledon reportedly due to injury.
In April, Nishikori became the eighth active player, and first Asian player, to earn 450 career tour-level wins following a victory at the Mutua Madrid Open, ATP Tour announced, when he outlasted Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
“I had no idea,” he said at the time of his latest accomplishment. “I just try to play one match at a time. It’s a lot, yes… I have played for 18 years now, hopefully I can reach 500 [wins].”
