Teyana Taylor is still reeling from her big win.
The One Battle After Another star won the Best Supporting Actress category at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Directly after Taylor’s emotional speech, PEOPLE asked the actress in the press room why the win felt personal.
“I’ve been doing it since I was 15 years old, you know? And what this was for me was God reminded me that the weight is not punishment, it’s preparation for what’s already written,” said Taylor, 35.
“So my name being written on that card and the engraving — this is just mind-blowing, you know?” she continued to reporters backstage. “… I’m still gagging right now. I’m just like, oh, my God. I’m so happy. I’m filled with so much gratitude. I don’t take any of this for granted. I don’t take any of it at all.”
Through tears onstage, Taylor thanked her parents and her “tribe” of loved ones, whom she called “my grounding force” as she accepted her award.
She added to writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, “Thank you for your vision, your trust and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you. We love you and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast.”
The star finished her speech by speaking to “my Brown sisters and little Brown girls watching tonight.”
“Our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine,” she said. “We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”

“I’ve been a SAG member for nearly 20 years, and to receive my first SAG Award nomination this morning is a true full circle moment!” she continued. “One that means more than I can put into words. I’m still pinching myself. I poured my whole heart into this role, and to be seen and recognized by my peers is deeply humbling.”
