The surprisingly relatable reason Kelly Clarkson hasn’t dated since Brandon Blackstock split
Kelly Clarkson is still Miss Independent.
The singer opened up to concertgoers over the weekend about why she isn’t on the market five years after her breakup from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
“Dating can be very difficult, which is why I don’t,” the “American Idol” alum, 43, told audience members between songs during her “Studio Sessions” residency Sunday.
In footage shared via TikTok, the Grammy winner spoke candidly from the Colosseum at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace stage as her fans laughed.
She added that since dating “is hard anyway,” the experience becomes a “dumpster fire” when you “add a spotlight.”
Social media users praised her admission in supportive comments.
“AMEN!!!!” one fan gushed, while another wrote, “Same, girl, same.”
Clarkson has been single since splitting from Blackstock, with whom she shares daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, in 2020.
The songwriter and her former manager, 48, settled their divorce in 2022.
The following year, Clarkson insisted via Instagram that she was “not looking” for love.
“I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs — there’s a lot going on,” she explained in the 2023 Live.
The former “Voice” coach noted in November 2024 that her children don’t want her to move on.
“They constantly bring it up,” Clarkson told KOST 103.5 listeners at the time. “They’re young, so it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.”
Most recently, she opened up about dating on the “Today” show.
The American Music Award winner reiterated to Jenna Bush Hager in May that she is “not looking” for a new relationship.
