The sweet symbolism behind Kate Middleton’s ruby and diamond cluster earrings for Armistice Day 2025

Kate Middleton’s latest choice of earrings offers a sweet nod to her eldest child, Prince George.

On Tuesday, Kate Middleton attended the annual Armistice Day service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, following this past weekend’s Remembrance Sunday.

For the event, she chose a double-breasted black Catherine Walker coat with military-inspired embroidery on the chest. She wore paper poppies and a brooch in the shape of the badge of the Irish Guards pinned to her shoulder (she was named their regimental colonel in December 2022).

It is a coat she’s worn for Remembrance Sunday in both 2019 and 2023. Previously, her two hats were made by Philip Treacy.

This year, she styled her outerwear with a pair of custom Gianvito Rossi boots

Underneath a wide-brimmed hat ($2,884) by Jane Taylor, her hair was tied back in braids to reveal a pair of ruby and diamond cluster drop earrings.

The earrings feature a diamond stud with two diamonds below, followed by a traditional halo around a central ruby.

The earrings are a fairly new addition to the princess’ jewelry collection. She has worn them twice in public so far — once in May to watch the military procession marking the 80^th anniversary of VE Day and again in September during a visit from President Trump and first lady Melania.

This year marked the first time Prince George was involved in Remembrance Day, as he accompanied Middleton to the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday. At 12 years old, he is the same age as his father, Prince William, when he first attended.

Rubies are the July birthstone, and Prince George was born on July 22; therefore, Middleton’s choice to wear these earrings seems to support her son as he begins to take on a public role in the Royal Family.

Her decision to wear them in May offered the same token of support, as the young prince joined her for a tea party at Buckingham Palace to honor World War II veterans.
