The Torkelsons charmed viewers with its heartwarming portrayal of a quirky single mother raising five kids in small-town Oklahoma. 

The show ran for two seasons, with a brief rebranding as Almost Home in its second year before ending in 1993. It gained a fan base thanks to its blend of Southern charm, relatable struggles, and witty narration by the eldest daughter, Dorothy Jane. 

Known for its slice-of-life storytelling and early glimpses of future stars, the series holds a nostalgic place in ’90s television. But what became of the beloved cast after the cameras stopped rolling?

Connie Ray as Millicent Torkelson

Connie Ray played the hardworking and endlessly patient single mom, Millicent Torkelson, on The Torkelsons

After the show, she continued to enjoy a steady acting career with roles in movies like Hope Floats (1998), Idle Hands (1999), Stuart Little (1999) and Ice Princess (2005). More recently, she played Nana Possible in the 2019 film, Kim Possible

Beyond acting, the 69-year-old discovered a passion for traveling and writing. She enjoys a quiet family life while balancing occasional on-screen roles. 

Olivia Burnette as Dorothy Jane Torkelson

Olivia Burnette took the lead role as Dorothy Jane Torkelson, providing the show’s cheerful voiceover narration. 

Before her Torkelsons stint, she was known for her character, Marti Page, in Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) opposite Steve Martin. 

The 48-year-old actress has also been featured in The Quick and the Dead (1995), Eye for an Eye (1996), CSI: NY (2004), and Flourish (2006).

Off screen, she’s married to Julian Sakata, with whom she shares a stepson from his previous relationship. Her personal life is kept relatively private.

Aaron Michael Metchik as Steven Floyd Torkelson

Aaron Michael Metchik stole hearts as Steven Floyd Torkelson, the charming and sometimes mischievous middle son. 

After the series, he landed several on-screen roles, including Trading Mom (1994) and Boy Meets World (1993), before delving into voice acting.

The 45-year-old has also pursued a career behind the camera, directing and acting in 2010’s 10 Years Later.

Metchik is a UCLA Theater graduate and respected acting coach who has worked with rising stars, Broadway performers, and established film and TV actors, including serving as Zac Efron’s private coach.

He now lives in Sherman Oaks, Calif., with his wife and two daughters, drawing daily inspiration from family and the creative journeys of his students.

Rachel Duncan as Mary Sue Torkelson

Rachel Duncan portrayed sweet and studious Mary Sue Torkelson, the middle daughter known for her big glasses and even bigger heart. 

Post-Torkelsons, she stepped away from acting to explore life beyond the screen. Not much is known about her personal life.

Anna Slotky as Ruth Ann Torkelson

Anna Slotky brought to life the witty and sometimes dramatic Ruth Ann Torkelson, the family’s budding actress. 

Before The Torkelsons, she was known for her role as Brooke McCallister in Home Alone (1990). She was also featured in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). 

The 44-year-old is married to James Reitano, and they reportedly have one child. She left the entertainment business behind to become an attorney.

Lee Norris as Chuckie Lee Torkelson

Lee Norris charmed audiences as the goofy and lovable little brother, Chuckie Lee Torkelson. 

He later landed recurring roles on hit dramas like One Tree Hill and Boy Meets World, proving his staying power in the industry. More recently, he has been featured in films like Gone Girl (2014) and Greyhound (2020). 

Currently, the 43-year-old enjoys the best of both worlds: pursuing his career and savoring the joys of fatherhood. Lee has been married to Andrea Norris since 2011, and they share a son.

William Schallert as Wesley Hodges

The late William Schallert played the bumbling but kindhearted Wesley Hodges, Dorothy Jane’s quirky neighbor. 

An esteemed character actor, he amassed hundreds of roles in shows like The Patty Duke Show, Star Trek, and Death Valley Days, both before and after The Torkelsons

Beyond his TV work, William was deeply involved in the acting community, serving as the longtime president of the Screen Actors Guild. 

He died in May 2016 at the age of 93, leaving behind four children whom he shared with his ex-wife, Rosemarie Diann Waggner.

Michael Landes as Riley Roberts

Michael Landes played charming motorcycle rider Riley Roberts, a recurring love interest for Dorothy Jane. 

Following those early years, he continued his acting career with notable roles in Final Destination 2 (2003), My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend (2010), Luxor (2020), and more. 

The 52-year-old has been married to Wendy Benson-Landes since 2000, and they share two children.

Brittany Murphy as Molly Morgan

Brittany Murphy captured hearts as bubbly Molly Morgan, a recurring friend of the Torkelson family known for her vivacious personality. 

In the years following the show, she skyrocketed to fame with major roles in films like Clueless (1995), 8 Mile (2002), Uptown Girls (2003) and Just Married (2003). 

Murphy was also beloved for her voice work in animated hits such as King of the Hill and Happy Feet (2006), showcasing her range and comedic timing. 

Tragically, she died in December 2009 at the age of 32, but her vibrant performances and warm screen presence continue to be celebrated by fans worldwide.
