The Woman in Cabin 10 Ending Explained: Do Lo and Carrie Survive?

Netflix’s latest thriller, The Woman in Cabin 10, brings mystery and tension to the high seas.
In the movie, renowned The Guardian journalist Laura “Lo” Blacklock (Keira Knightley) is invited on a luxury yacht by wealthy philanthropist Anne Bullmer (Lisa Loven Kongsli). Anne is dying of cancer, so she and her husband Richard (Guy Pearce) are taking a group of their wealthy, elite friends on one final journey in their superyacht before her death.
Their destination is a hunting lodge in Norway, where Anne will host a massive banquet and declare that she’s giving all her money away to charity. Among the other attendees on the yacht are socialite Heidi (Hannah Waddingham), influencer Grace (Kaya Scodelario), and Lo’s former fling, photographer Ben (David Ajala), among others.
Shortly after the yacht departs, Lo, who is staying in cabin 8, enters cabin 10, which is directly next to hers. There she meets a mysterious woman who quickly runs into the bathroom. Later that night, she hears a fight coming from next door in cabin 10, followed by the sound of something large falling into the ocean. When she goes out on her balcony, she sees a body floating in the water and a bloody handprint on the privacy divider between the two cabins’ balconies.
From there, the movie takes a delirious turn, with nobody else on the yacht seemingly knowing who this mysterious woman is. Instead, they all think Lo is crazy. Even worse, every time Lo finds a shred of evidence, it somehow goes missing. As the days go on, Lo continues searching for answers, further alienating herself from everyone else and causing a deeper rift between them all.
But the most shocking part about The Woman in Cabin 10 is that the big twist doesn’t actually come at the end of the movie. Instead, it’s revealed halfway through the film.
Here’s everything to know about how The Woman in Cabin 10 ends.
Warning: The Woman in Cabin 10 spoilers ahead!
Who was killed?
After witnessing a woman being thrown overboard, Lo is on a relentless search for her.
Soon, she is confronted by a woman in a hoodie who tells her she’s in danger and needs to stop asking questions about the mysterious girl. But after days of feeling terrified and confused, Lo isn’t willing to take orders from a hooded figure. She throws back the hood and sees a woman who looks just like Anne … but in perfect health. After being discovered, the woman shoves Lo’s head into the wall, knocking her unconscious, and locks her away in a storage room deep within the yacht.
The following night, the woman returns and finally reveals herself as a girl named Carrie. Having seen Anne’s gala speech — in which Anne vowed to give away all her money to charity — Lo deduces that the real Anne must be dead, and that Richard killed her, knowing he was about to lose all his money. The girl Lo saw in cabin 10 is the same one who is now parading around as Anne.
Carrie confesses that she’s an actress Richard hired to pose as Anne. She says the original plan was for her to dress as Anne and sign a new will, bequeathing her assets to Richard instead of charity. Carrie says she had no idea Richard was going to kill Anne in the process, and only agreed to be a part of the scheme because she has a daughter and desperately needs money for her family.
Before Carrie leaves, Lo warns her that Richard will not allow her to walk free after she signs the contract. The journalist suggests the two work together to stop him.
How does The Woman in Cabin 10 end?
In the climax, the yacht docks in Norway, and everyone disembarks. Richard tells the ship’s doctor to stay behind to find Lo … and to inject her with a lethal dose of poison. Worried about Lo, who is still missing, Ben also stays behind and decides to look for her.
Meanwhile, Lo escapes the storage room and tries to find her way off the yacht undetected. The doctor finds her and tries to inject her, but Ben comes up from behind, and the two fight. Eventually, the doctor accidentally injects the poison into Ben, killing him. But that scuffle gives Lo enough time to escape and jump from the boat.
That night at the gala, Lo sneaks in and tries to tell one of Richard’s assistants the truth that Anne is dead, but the assistant doesn’t believe her. Out of other options, Lo has no choice but to take on Richard herself. While he and Carrie (still posing as Anne) are on stage thanking their guests for attending, Lo walks onto the stage with the transcript of Anne’s original speech.
Richard tries to stop her, but Carrie says that Lo is her friend and that she wants her to speak. Because they’re in front of a large crowd (who all still think Anne is alive), Richard has no choice but to let it happen, and she reads Anne’s original will that gifts all of her belongings to charity.
Though Richard attempts to interrupt, Carrie insists that Lo is speaking the truth and wants her to continue. Now exposed and out of options, Richard spirals out of control. He grabs a knife and holds it to Carrie’s throat, taking her hostage.
Does Carrie survive at the end of The Woman in Cabin 10?
Now convinced that Lo was right all along, Richard’s assistant runs to the lodge’s hunting shed to get a rifle. Meanwhile, Richard takes Carrie down to a small boat where he hopes to escape. Lo chases them to the dock and is followed by attendees from the banquet.
“Bullmer, drop the knife,” Lo screams to Richard. “Or, what?” he replies. Lo looks over and sees the assistant lining up Richard in the rifle’s scope. “I really think you should drop the knife,” she says before Richard replies with, “F— you!” Then a bullet goes through Richard’s shoulder.
Enraged and knowing he’s about to die, he grabs Carrie by the throat and tries to strangle her. Lo sees a hammer lying on the dock, picks it up, and whacks it against his head, causing him to collapse.
What happens after the climax in The Woman in Cabin 10?
After the final tense moments, the movie fast-forwards to some time later, after Lo has written an exposé about her experience for The Guardian.
While Lo is at the office, she gets a video message from Carrie, who is back home with her daughter. “She’s good and I’m good,” Carrie says. “You should come visit us.”
Lo sets the phone down and smiles just before the credits start to roll.
Will The Woman in Cabin 10 get a sequel?
The Woman in Cabin 10 is based on Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel of the same name. In July 2025, she published a sequel, The Woman in Suite 11.
This time around, Lo finds herself attending a press event at a newly opened Swiss resort. But soon after arriving, a mysterious woman asks Lo to come to her room … where she delivers a life-or-death message.
However, Ware told PEOPLE ahead of the movie’s premiere that an adaptation isn’t in the works yet.
“That would be amazing, obviously,” Ware said. “I tend to just sort of get told about stuff when it’s greenlit and people do their stuff. So no, you probably know as much as I do.”
