Tommy DeCarlo’s son breaks silence on Boston singer’s death and ‘incredible’ legacy
Tommy DeCarlo’s son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr., honored the late Boston frontman’s “incredible legacy” in a touching statement.
“Some of my most cherished memories with my father are the ones we shared through music,” the 35-year-old musician exclusively told Page Six of the performer, who lost his battle to brain cancer earlier this month.
“Whether we were touring around the world or working side by side in the studio, those moments meant everything to me.”
The vocalist “constantly inspired” his child to “strive for more and to never settle.”
DeCarlo Jr. recalled, “One of his favorite pieces of advice was, ‘If you wait for opportunities to come to you, you’ll be waiting your whole life — you have to go out and create them yourself.’”
He went on to gush over his dad’s journey as a longtime Boston fan to the band’s lead singer in 2007, describing how it felt to be “standing stage left” at concerts.
“We would often exchange a look that said, ‘I still can’t believe this is real,’” DeCarlo Jr. stated. “It was a shared sense of awe — how we went from sitting in the nosebleed seats to standing onstage, with my father singing for the very band we admired for so many years.”
He concluded, “My father leaves behind an incredible legacy, one that I intend to carry forward in his honor. I know he would want me to continue making music, pursuing my dreams with the same passion and determination that he did.”
News broke of DeCarlo’s death on March 9. The Utica, NY, native was 60 years old.
In addition to DeCarlo Jr., the rocker is survived by wife Annie and daughter Talia.
DeCarlo’s loved ones announced his passing “with heavy heart[s],” sharing via Facebook how “he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”
The family members added, “During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another. Rest in peace, Dad.”
DeCarlo Jr. shared his own tribute via Instagram last week, captioned, “You are finally at peace, Dad. Thank you for always watching over me and for not only being the best dad, but also my best friend.”
A GoFundMe was set up prior to DeCarlo’s passing to cover his costly treatments, revealing the musician suffered back-to-back brain bleeds in September and November 2025.
He returned home from the hospital last December with “a long road ahead.”
