Tracy Spiridakos Weighs In on Halstead and Upton Potentially Getting Married Again After ‘Chicago P.D.’ Reunion (Exclusive)
Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton — otherwise known as Upstead — reunited after their offscreen split on Chicago P.D., but what are the chances they will get married again?
Tracy Spiridakos spoke to Us about potentially returning to the hit NBC series while also filming her new USA Network show, Anna Pigeon, saying, “I love going over to Chicago and visiting those guys. I would absolutely love that. One hundred percent. So they [should] just call me.”
After Us suggested an appearance tied to Upton and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) getting married again, Spiridakos, 38, quipped, “Another wedding! Do it again … that is hilarious!”
Upton and Halstead’s romance was explored on Chicago P.D. over the years but ultimately came to a shocking end due to their actors’ respective exits. (Soffer left the show during season 10 while Spiridakos departed in season 11.)
The fan-favorite fictional couple crossed paths again in the three-part One Chicago crossover special earlier this year. After a rocky start, Upton and Halstead appeared to leave the door open for a potential romantic reconciliation … off screen.
“It makes me so happy that people love our characters so much and were so invested in our story,” Spiridakos told Us. “And I was really glad that the writers had that reunion and made that story happen because I know a lot of people were feeling that story left in a way that they wanted more and wanted to know more.”
She continued: “So I was really thrilled that we got to do that and got to put that forward for the fans. I also like the way that the ending of that was left. It’s open to interpretation. What happened after drinks? What happened? Who knows?”
While Spiridakos is open to return, her focus is currently on leading a new show: Anna Pigeon.
“I read the pilot and completely fell in love with it. I wasn’t familiar with the books before this project came along, but I loved the character. I thought she was so interesting and complicated,” she told Us about Anna’s story line. “I loved that even though she’s going through this personal grief and growth and this tragedy that she’s experienced, she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She has moments of levity, and I love that she’s funny and sarcastic.”
Spiridakos was thrilled to try something new, sharing, “I was really drawn to that. And I think the thing for me is that Hailey was a very intense character — and so fun to play. But her emotions were always … she put a lid on them and that was part of her. But Anna is wild. She just goes on impulse and on whatever feeling she’s having. She lives very outwardly. I love that. It was such a fun difference.”
She concluded: “They’re both really complicated and powerful women, but they do it differently. So it was really attractive for me to get to know her better.”
Anna Pigeon premieres Friday, August 7, at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network.
