Victoria Jones’ Family Speak Out Following Her Death at Age 34
Victoria Jones’ family has released a statement following her death.
“We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time,” the family said via a statement to Us Weekly on Friday, January 2.
Victoria was found dead at 34 in the Fairmont San Francisco hotel on Thursday, January 1. The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed to Us Weekly that they responded to “a report of a medical emergency” at the hotel in the early hours of Thursday morning.
“Upon arrival, paramedics from the fire department performed an assessment. The person was declared deceased,” the statement read. “SFPD and the medical examiner’s office were called to the scene. Scene turned over to SFPD and SF Medical Examiners.”
A 911 call released on Friday, January 2, revealed that San Francisco police officers received a call for “code 3 for the overdose, color change.” Paramedics pronounced Victoria dead on the scene. It has been suspected that she died from an overdose.
Victoria is survived by her father, actor Tommy Lee Jones, and his ex-wife Kimberlea Cloughley along with an older brother named Austin Jones. (Tommy, 79, and Cloughley split in 1991. He has since moved on with Dawn Laurel-Jones, whom he married in 2001.)
Prior to her death, Victoria appeared alongside her father in several films, including Men in Black II and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.
Tommy also spoke candidly about his daughter’s budding acting career in an interview with The New Yorker in 2006, revealing that he even had to fire her from The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which was released that year.
“She’s a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” he said at the time. “When she was a baby, I told her nurse to speak to her in Spanish, but I fired my daughter [from the movie].”
Tommy explained the firing, adding, “She had to get up at 5 a.m. for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ But she wouldn’t budge, so I fired her. Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time.”
Along with Victoria’s past roles in her father’s movies, she also appeared in Sorry, Haters, One Tree Hill and The Homesman. She hasn’t appeared in any other onscreen projects since 2014.
Victoria’s most recent appearance alongside her dad came in 2017 when she accompanied Tommy to the Just Getting Started premeire.
