Welcome to Plathville’s Lydia and Zac Are ‘Playing It by Ear’ When It Comes to Kids, Want at Least 3 (Exclusive)

Lydia Plath comes from a big family, but are she and husband Zac Wyse ready to start their own?

“We’re still playing it by ear,” Lydia, 21, exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, August 25, of the couple’s timeline for having babies. “We’re doing our best, and so far [so] good with waiting at least a year.”

The Welcome to Plathville star — who is one of nine kids — married Zac in February after getting engaged two months prior.

Despite raising eyebrows with the speed of their relationship, Lydia’s dad, Barry Plath, has been pushing for grandchildren since before Zac proposed. Lydia and Zac told Us that hasn’t changed since they tied the knot.

“He’s ready to be a grandfather. He’s still waiting today,” Lydia revealed, explaining, “I have a shelf [in our house] that was the shelf that my mom had all the baby pictures on. I have it hanging on my wall. And my dad came over and he was like, ‘You’re going to start filling that up?’”

While Barry, 57, is on board with becoming a grandparent, Zac agrees with his wife’s timeline — but it hasn’t been easy.

“We’re definitely waiting, though, because we want to know each other. We also want to prepare for something like that,” Zac told Us on Monday. “We don’t want to just jump in.”

He confessed the couple “do want babies. We have baby fever,” but they are sticking to the plan to wait a year or two to expand their brood.

When the time comes, Lydia said they are thinking about having “three to five” kids, because that size of family is “not too small, not too big.”

Like her husband, whom she waited until her wedding day to kiss, Lydia admitted to Us that her baby radar is up since getting hitched.

In fact, earlier this summer, the couple spent time with Counting On alum Jinger Dugger and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, and got to snuggle up to their newest addition, which caused them both to want kids even more. (Duggar, 31, welcomed her third baby, son Finnegan, in March. She and Vuolo, 47, also share daughters Felicity, 6, and Evangeline, 4.)

“Seeing Zach hold a baby, it was just the worst thing for me right now,” Lydia admitted to Us, letting out a laugh.

While the newlyweds are happy to hold off on becoming parents, they confirmed that they have had “plenty of practice” kissing since their wedding day.

Zac told Us that there was “no” issue being comfortable with Lydia on an intimacy level despite saving themselves for each other. “I think we trusted each other enough that, you know, it wasn’t going to be perfect,” Zac explained before his spouse chimed in to correct him.

Lydia pointed out, “Well, whatever it was, was going to be perfect because it was us learning together. So, it didn’t have to be perfect in [anyone else’s standards], but it was perfect because it was us learning.”

Welcome to Plathville airs on TLC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
