Where Is DCC’s Kelcey Wetterberg Now? All About Her Life After Leaving the Squad
NEED TO KNOW
- Kelcey Wetterberg was a five-year leader on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleading squad before hanging up her uniform in 2024
- Now, she is focused on her career as a pediatric nurse
- In June 2025, Wetterberg celebrated the second season of America’s Sweethearts premiering on Netflix
Kelcey Wetterberg may have taken her final bow as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, but she’s just getting started in the next chapter of her life.
Fans of Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were introduced to Wetterberg as a five-year veteran, standing out not just for her talent as a dancer, but also for her ability to balance the demanding world of DCC with a full-time career as a pediatric nurse.
“DCC is more of a part-time job — as a nurse I work 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., then go to practice and get home at midnight, sometimes 1:00 a.m,” she explained on the first season of the show.
Beyond the sidelines, Wetterberg’s personal life has been full of milestones. She got engaged to actor and fellow registered nurse Nate Crnkovich on the docuseries. The couple celebrated their union with two ceremonies in Nebraska, on Dec. 30 and 31, 2024. Their New Year’s Eve reception was attended by 300 guests and was “a dream come true,” according to Wetterberg, who told PEOPLE about the special day.
And she’s not done with DCC just yet, either. Wetterberg is considered an “All-Star,” and still helps out the team, coach Kelli Finglass and choreographer Judy Trammell from time to time.
From her moments on America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to planning her next chapter off the field, here’s everything Kelcey Wetterberg has been up to since hanging up her uniform.
Who is Kelcey Wetterberg?
Born on July 25, 1996, in Omaha, Neb., Wetterberg started dancing at the age of 3 and was competing shortly after.
During her five-year tenure with the DCC, Wetterberg rose to the role of first group leader and was selected as the squad’s 2023 Pro Bowl representative. She balanced her cheerleading responsibilities with a full-time job as a pediatric nurse, often working hospital shifts during the day in addition to cheerleading practice at night.
Since leaving the Cowboys, Wetterberg has transitioned to full time work in the nursing field while occasionally helping out the team.
How did Kelcey Wetterberg become famous?
Wetterberg is well known for her role and leadership with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, but some might not know much else about the athlete’s rise to fame.
She began dancing at the age of 3 and was competing by 8. She earned a gold medal with the 2017 U.S. National Jazz Team and served as choreography captain for the Nebraska Scarlets Dance Team before joining the DCC.
After gaining her initial fame with America’s Sweethearts, Wetterberg quickly gained a large social media following. Now, on her Instagram and TikTok accounts, she documents her daily life, hair and makeup tips plus the occasional partnership or brand deal.
Who is Kelcey Wetterberg’s husband?
Wetterberg’s husband, Crnkovich, first gained national attention as Mister Supranational 2019. Despite growing up a mere 15 minutes away from each other, the couple met later on through a mutual friend and began dating long-distance in 2020, with Crnkovich initially based in Los Angeles and Wetterberg in Dallas.
“We had a mutual friend that posted a picture of him, and I thought he was really cute,” Wetterberg previously shared with PEOPLE in January 2025. “We started dating long distance shortly after that, and he ended up taking a travel nursing contract in Dallas a few months later to be closer.”
The pair tied the knot in a two-day celebration in their hometown of Omaha, with a private Catholic ceremony on Dec. 30, 2024, followed by a glamorous New Year’s Eve reception attended by 300 guests.
The event featured a six-tier wedding cake, a “Thunderstruck” performance by Wetterberg and her fellow DCC alumni and a vintage Hollywood theme. The couple now live in Dallas full time.
What happened to Kelcey Wetterberg after Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?
In addition to getting married to Crnkovich and focusing on nursing, a lot has changed for Wetterberg since her retirement from DCC. In March 2025, she underwent ankle repair surgery, which she shared with her followers on Instagram and TikTok.
The athlete has been candid about her recovery process, sharing an entire playlist of videos dedicated to the injury on TikTok. In an April 14, 2025, video, Wetterberg recounted the “worst injury [she’s] ever had,” revealing that she snapped her ankle the month before while walking her dogs.
In May, she revealed in another post that she was getting back into working out. “My strength is better, but the amount of strength you lose in eight, nine weeks of not doing anything is crazy,” Wetterberg said.
Despite these challenges, her passion for dance remains undiminished. She continues to engage with the DCC community, participating in alumni events and helping out the team when they need it in her role as an All-Star.
What does Kelcey Wetterberg do as a DCC All-Star?
As a member of the DCC All-Stars, Wetterberg remains deeply involved with the organization even after hanging up her official uniform. She’s part of a tight-knit group of about seven retired cheerleaders who step in for appearances and events when the current squad is unavailable due to game prep or rehearsals.
“The Cowboys organization has some reserve cheerleaders,” she explained in a December 2024 TikTok, adding that the group is made up of former teammates who all retired together. “We get to do stuff when the team is busy, so tonight the team has practice, and we’re doing this appearance.”
Beyond public appearances, Wetterberg also mentors aspiring cheerleaders through DCC prep classes. In one TikTok from April 2025, she shared a glimpse into a session she taught, writing, “Had the BEST TIME! So inspiring to be in this room with so many driven women going after their dreams 💙.”
